Official 2017 Trade Deadilne Thread

Cubs about to get Wilson and Avila for Candelario... wish we had a stud proven LHP relief pitcher to pair with Suzuki for him.

At this point, I'd guess we make zero trades today. Jim Johnson would seem the most likely to go, but he has not put his best foot forward as scouts have been watching the past couple weeks. Hoping a team will take the long view with him. I'd be fine with keeping him, personally.

As for the quest to acquire controllable starting pitching, I'm not seeing it. Unless there's something really stealth happening, there just doesn't seem to be much noise. Even the noise on Gray has been almost completely limited to NYY in the past week.

This is what I'm thinking. I'd wager we do nothing today. It wont be that the front office is making a huge mistake choosing to hang onto guys like Johnson, Phillips, and Suzuki. It'll be more that there's just not demand for those guys. It's better to keep the assets you have and play more entertaining baseball for you fans down the stretch than to give the guys away for pieces that you know wont amount to anything.

As for controllable young pitching, I think the only reason we're monitoring that is that it's something that we know we want to get and we don't want to sit on the sidelines and see a controllable young pitcher get dealt for a price we'd be willing to pay. We're perfectly content waiting until the offseason, we just don't want to miss an opportunity if one presents itself.

dodgers have been viewed as favorite for darvish, but teams are at an impasse -- at least for now. time's left, but LA loves its prospects

I remember when the trade deadline was one of the most exciting days of the season. The past few years have been really tame, and today is shaping up much the same.

Most of the deals get done before the deadline now.

I hope Markakis, Vizcaino, Johnson, Phillips, Suzuki, Adams, and Camargo are all traded.

Nobody will want Kemp.

Bring up Jace and some scrubs. Leave Ronald, Ozzie, and Dansby down in AAA for the rest of the year.

Let's suck really bad for the rest of the year and get a top 3ish draft pick.

Then we start next year guns blazing.

C- Flowers
1B- Freeman
2B- Albies
SS- Swanson
3B- Profar?
LF- Kemp
CF- Inciarte
RF- Acuna

SP- Folty
SP- Newk
SP- Dickey
SP- Teheran
SP- Sims

Have Soroka and Gohara ready to take Dickey and Teheran's spots with Touki, Allard, Fried, Weigel, et al waiting in the wings.

Still not competing for a playoff spot, but we'd be better, more exciting, and have a brighter future.

I can't understand why people think so lowly of Jim Johnson on here....some bad luck over a low number of innings?

Playing with fire when have have 30+ year old catchers; which is the number 1 reason going for Lucroy was dumb. Sell high on Flowers right now/

Who do we replace flowers with next season?

And replace him with who? Catchers who are good at pitch framing and can swing the bat a little bit don't grow on trees, and with our young pitching staff we need that framing ability. Which is why we need to go ahead and sign him to an additional two years beyond this one. Maybe by then somebody might be worth a damn.

I really don't care who he gets replaced with. The team isn't competing seriously next year and he is too old to be an asset when the team is ready to compete. He's the perfect example of selling high.

One of the main reasons the Cubs wanted Avila in the deal was to replace Montero as a lefty-hitting vet behind the plate. Can't imagine they'd have had any interest in Suzuki.
