Official 2017 Trade Deadilne Thread

Gray went a lot cheaper than I thought he would. Good deal for the Yanks, especially considering 2 of the 3 are injured.

My initial thought is that is way too much from the Yanks.

Cashman needs to be fired.

Huh? This is probably fairly comparable value if they're all healthy...but Fowler and Kaprielian are definitely not.

Seems like they could have pushed for Chance Adams over Kaprielian, that would still be 0 top-50 guys in the deal.

Reminds me of the package we got for Upton. If Kaprielan comes back healthy and back to his preinjury levels than the A's will be happy with the package. I also like Fowler a good deal.

What I don't understand is the love affair with Mateo. That guy does not impress me as the centerpiece.

It's a very good deal for the Yankees and an ok one for the A's. Beane continues to be hung up on older guys who are closer to the majors, though. And he continues to not get back even value. He's not a good GM at this point.

Very roughly, probably something like Pache, Fried, and a hitter with similar value to Wentz.

So Pache, Fried and say Riley? Meh...for two years no thanks. It's good for the Yankees because they are actually contending AND they have the money to sign anyone they want anyway (so they can sign him back if he does well). Glad we didn't drink the crazy juice. There is a good chance we don't contend next year...so we might have only had one year in which having Gray mattered.

Riley isn't nearly as good of a prospect as Wentz

Not an overwhelming haul for Gray, but not terrible either. Yanks have a glut of Ofers, so trading Fowler made sense. I do like Fowler better long term than Frazier though, even if he is injured currently. A nice centerpiece for a Gray deal. Not terribly enthused with Mateo, but I suppose he's liked well enough around baseball experts. Kap was their first round pick a year ago.

If you want to stretch, you could say they got 3 top 100 prospects for Gray, which would seem like a good get. But it does seem a bit light.

Really wish JT was throwing better. We could have cleaned up this deadline with theach good version of JT.

No, Mateo is definitely a better prospect than Riley. It's impossible to compare because most of our system is younger than these guys, and 2 of them are currently badly injured. Fried is probably similarly valued to Kaprielian, Kap may have a tick more value right now. Pache and Fowler are fairly similar in value, though Pache is obviously much younger and not currently injured. Mateo doesn't really have a comp in our organization. It would have probably taken something like Pache, Anderson, and Fried to have beaten that package.

Beane's insistence on older prospects hurts him again. Prospects who are 22+ and in the 75+ range just don't do a whole lot for me, but that is primarily what he seems to stack up on in deals like this.

So the Yanks didn't get Alonso. Let's see if they and the Braves make a last minute deal for Adams. Yanks in need of 1b/DH with Holliday and Byrd struggling.

Yeah, no thanks then. Smart move Coppy.

One thing to remember, the HO and Kemp trades both came late and out of the clear blue.
