8/22... mariners game 2

he's at .649 since we made the bet...has to get it up to over .700 for you to win

btw...even though everyone seems disappointed by Albies "slow start" he is at .729 so far in the majors.

I am not savy enough to know how to get the stats, but the last week or so, I feel like Ozzie has corrected his launch angle which is why he is now getting more and more quality hits.

It is easy to get excited about Ender, Freddie, Ozzie, Acuna, & Swanson for the future. The less we have to fill in (due to lack of production) with old vets the better we will become.

Yup. We want to minimize the risks involved in bringing in guys like Markakis and Kemp on significant contracts. We'll have to do some, but minimize it by giving the young guys plenty of chances to show what they can do.

Albies is striking out 14% of the time as a 20 year old in the major leagues. Sexy.

Yep... in a small sample, already putting up a 2.5 WAR pace

Would like to see an uptick in walk rate and more stolen bases. I'd go ahead and move him up in the order

I think the walk rate is going to take a while. He is an aggressive hitter. As he continues to learn the pitchers I think what we will see is a power uptick which will compensate for a lower than desirable walk rate.

He walked around 8% in the minors... trending around 6% in the big leagues

Don't need anything drastic, but a little patience would be good for him.

I think based on what I've seen once his pitch recognition improves as he adjusts to the majors he's gonna walk more. I also hope the next manager slots him in the two hole not 7th or 8th. Him and Inciarte are gonna be causing chaos at the top for years in front of Acuna and Freddie.

I agree with Enscheff in I'd like to see his swing path altered a bit to prevent those fly balls where he doesn't have the power to push them deeper to the fence. It's funny because some of his swings remind me a little LaRoche's. Long but Roach had the size and power to hit doubles and homers.

I'm definitely excited to see him adjust to the league.

I think as he gets comfortable, his walks will increase. You have to think pitchers are going to challenge him until they think they have to trick him to get him out.

I think we are going to see a lineup at some point in 2018 as follows:

Albies
Acuna
Freeman
Kemp
Flowers
Inciarte
Swanson
Camargo

Albies is already my new favorite player... I am PRAYING we don't trade him this offseason

I'm not sure any of that talk was serious unless it was for a big time pitcher that is cheap and under control. Soon I don't think they will trade him at all. Just trade for Verlander and absorb the salary.

I doubt Ender would be dropped from leadoff spot. He's been a really good tablesetter for us. I think Acuna won't be thrown into the top 4 in the lineup so soon. They want him to get comfortable first in the 5 or 6 spot then throw him higher in lineup on getaway days or if someone's injured to see how he responds.

Besides id rather have Albies in 2 hole because he's a switch hitter and we're likely to have aMother manager obsessed with L-R-L-R-L-R

Players who are small with plus hit tools sometimes aren't ever very patient because pitchers challenge them constantly. Altuve, who everyone wants to compare to Albies, had successful seasons under 5%, and has a career rate of 6%. As Altuve's ISO has increased over the years, so too has his BB rate...and it's probably not a coincidence.

Once Albies fixes whatever is causing him to suddenly exchange 20% fewer LDs/GBs into 20% more FBs, he will be just fine. Whatever info got into his head that caused the recent barrage of fly balls this year (even in AAA) needs to get knocked out of there.

Altuve didn't increase his power by hitting more FBs. Albies needs to strive for Altuve's 20/50/30 mix of LD/GB/FB.

Maybe pitchers are attacking him up more in an attempt to generate more harmless FBs?

In fact, I will be totally out on this FO IF they trade Ozzie for pretty much any SP that's within reason.

Altuve's numbers are truly fascinating. Look at that BABIP this year, which isn't that far off his career norms.

I'm not sure I'd use him as a yard stick.

Umm, a BABIP of .383 is absolutely far off his career norms, and is likely going to be the outlier in his entire career. His career BABIP of .340 is already near the limit of what is sustainable.

The best career BABIP for a recent player is Jeter's .350 career rate. He pretty much had the gold standard batted ball profile for a player to achieve such a high BABIP:

Good line drive rate (20%)
Low FB rate (21%)
Miniscule IFFB rate (< 3%)
Nearly perfect spray rates (33/34/33 pull/center/oppo)
Above average speed (258 SBs, 23.8 career BsR)
Average or better power (260 HRs)

That's what a guy needs to sustain a .350 BABIP. Altuve is close, but not at that level. As he slows down his career BABIP will likely fall below .330.

A BABIP of .383 is in no way close to sustainable for him, or any player.

I think the 20/50/30 batted ball profile is a perfectly reasonable measuring stick for Albies.

Ok, you are correct. his BABIP should drop, but his career BABIP of .340 is pretty high in comparison to almost everyone else as far as making a .380 BABIP look reasonable.
