Acuna A Finalist For BA's MiLB POY

Take into account performance, age for level, and the power/speed/defense combination...its gotta be Acuna.

The Jays have a quite a foundation to rebuild around.

Bichette had the best overall numbers. Acuna was likely the best in regard to age vs. league. But the most impressive is probably Vlad Jr.

I've liked Bichette since before he was drafted and was hoping we would have gotten him. It's so close between him, Vlad Jr, and Acuna but given Acunas age and him doing it through 3 levels all in the same year is beyond impressive. The other 2 could see their numbers fall off as they advance so that's why I'd give it to Acuna.

Oh *hit - this sure won't make many around here happy...

"But Braves player development personnel saw something beyond the stat line, something they felt would allow Acuna to do the improbable and actually perform better as the competition level improved.

“It was the approach," Braves assistant farm director Jonathan Schuerholz said. “You see him laying off breaking balls out of the zone, he's swinging at fastballs, he's hitting balls hard when he is getting pitches to hit. He's playing plus defense. He's doing everything we look at that aren't necessarily stat-driven markers

. . . His approach was such, it was an advanced approach for that level."

LOL your stupidity is comical. For that, I thank you.

HOW DARE THEY USE SCOUTING! WHERE IS MY TORCH AND PITCHFORK!

Edit - do we already have the "the sound of the ball off his bat is special" comment yet? I know it's coming.

The funny thing is the blackjack dealer continually quotes me and tries to drag me into his useless crap when he knows he's on my ignore list - go find a 12 year old to help you with your jollies man, seriously.

that is kind of twisted and very non funny...

also, I am pretty sure everyone is excited about Acuna. The debate that might go on, is how to utilize him and when to call him up.

Speaking of useless crap, how's your website content coming along?

Those are the intellects that get sucked into his arguments. Stopped wasting my time (and everybody else's who had to put up with the back-and-forths) with that quite a while back.

“I truly believed when we signed him he could hit, but to be honest with you I don't think any scout can tell you that any kid is going to run that fast through the system," Petit said. “It's him. He's made it. With his mind, his consistency, his desire, his natural tools."

Petit btw is Director of Scouting for Cuba and Venezuela. I don't know if he played any role in scouting Hector Olivera for us. If he did, I think the role he played in getting Acuna for us is going to more than offset any mistakes made in scouting Olivera.

The problem with the whole Olivera situation isn't that we scouted him wrong it's that we completely ****ed up the trade. As far as I know no other teams were interested in paying that much money to am unproven injury prone prospect over 30 and the Dodgers had no room for him in the majors. We could have waited for our leverage to increase and got him for pennies on the dollar of what we paid.

There were failures at multiple levels. But surely there was failure on the part of the scouts who assessed him for us.
