Baseball America Braves Top 10

Is it bad that I'd be disappointed if this were case? I've just never liked Adam Jones and thought he's always been overrated. May be it's that career. 322 OBP.

Acuna's upper level walk rates suggest an AJones OBP is quite likely, but I think we can safely project it to be a good bit higher.

AJones is a great player. The Braves will be lucky if Acuna has that good of a career.

Adam Jones.

Remember all the ‘I wouldn’t trade JJ for Adam Jones’ threads from years ago? Priceless.

Probably.

I mean with the way he is being hyped up I have no doubt that unless Acuna is a perennial MVP candidate in his prime that people will be disappointed. Jones did have a run in his late 20's of 4 straight all-star level performance but that won't be good enough with Acuna's hype.

But - a HUGE but - if Acuna can become a .340 OBP guy with the rest of his tools reaching Jones' levels, you've got yourself a perennial All-Star rather than a handful of appearances.

I agree that would still be a disappointment for your average fans given the hype, but i can't imagine everyone here wouldn't be thrilled beyond belief if that's what he somehow settles into. If he's going to be a .280/.340/.480 guy with 25 bombs and ~100 RBIs while playing plus defense, they need to start talking about a Freeman-level extension (if they can't get a longer one) right away.

I wouldn't be opposed to offering both Albies and Acuna 10 year deals sometime next season (as soon as you see if Acuna can make the jump like Ozzie has).

A decent post, but then...there's the stupid.

Albies is on pace to become a FA after his age 26 season. He is not going to sign an extension that delays it by more than 1-2 years. Best the Braves can hope for is something like I outlined here:

Adam Jones.

Wasn't it Prado, JJ, and a low-level prospect for Jones? I remember that most of the board--me included--thought the price for Jones would have been too high. We were wrong.

Given that we traded Prado for Upton I feel like that consensus was vindicated in the end.

You say fans wouldfnt be thrilled about that. But I just have to look back 20 years to see what fans generally thought of andruw while he was here. Mostly about what he failed to be instead of what he was.

Man the DBacks were a stupid organization.

While it's hard to know what other packages were offered, the players traded away have almost combined as much WAR as Upton has produced since thearly trade. Now, the Dbacks haven't benefited from much of that due to trading Prado away, but it's still worthy to note that, on a WAR basis at least, the package of players they received have almost equaled what they traded away. So may be not quite as lopsided as you're suggesting.

That was the point - fans that were disappointed with Andruw (average fans) - were unrealistic, and will be disappointed if Acuna doesn't become "All-World". My guess is that most here would be more than thrilled if Ronald winds up being a "better" Adam Jones and makes 5 or more All-Star teams during his time here. If they wouldn't, they're not very realistic either.

Seriously?

Hopfully you recognize that one player who gives you 6 WAR is far more valuable than 4 players who give you 6.

Alex Jackson is going to be the prospect that has the biggest rise in the system next year.

I honestly don't remember thinking Andruw Jones was a disappointment.

I wish he'd learned to lay off that pitch, beyond that I was pretty content.

I do. The smiling head shake after he struck out swinging at the low and away pitch, over and over again. It was frustrating at the time. Now it's easier to realize that we noticed that weakness mainly because he had so many strengths.
