College Football Thread

It was pretty entertaining.

I just thought we played flat for much of the game. Houston isn't terrible, but they are super thin and Tom Savage is their QB. Wasn't expecting a blow out, but it'd be nice to not have games come down to the last minute.

Les Miles would be a tremendous hire for the Vols. I thought LSU was crazy to let him go. He knows how to recruit in the SEC. Not all do.

Les wouldn't be terrible. Rather have Leach. But if it's Les and Tee, I could get behind that all day long.

Miles is 62-64 years old from what I remember. Best case scenario they have him for 3-4 years, and he starts looking to retire. Dont think that would be the best option.

They need stability right now and someone who can recruit. They won’t be relevant until that time anyway.

If there was ever SEC bias this confirms it completely. What has Alabama done this season on the field to deserve the playoff? They are in because of their name and that is all. Zero wins over teams that made the final top 25, did not win their division, and somehow are rewarded for not playing a conference title game.

The committee is a joke and clearly winning games isn't as important as it should be. I am not defending Ohio State here, but if they schedule Mercer instead of Oklahoma there is no conversation here. I think the days of big time out of conference games is going to be coming to an end. There isn't any positives for winning it, but only negatives if you lose. Mandate all conferences play 9 conference games and use SEC logic when determining your non conference games. Expect to see Mercer and The Citadel a lot in the coming years.

Not a Bama fan. Wish both Ohio State and Bama was left out. But you can't fault Bama for winning their games. FSU was a pre-season favorite for the CFP. Not Bama's fault they ended up sucking. Ohio State played UNLV and Army as other out of conference foes..... such powerhouses.

Ohio State had more impressive individual wins, but they got dominated in both of their losses, with one of those coming against a mediocre Iowa team who finished 7-5. IMO, Wisconson and USC both had a better case to go than Ohio State. Last year, OSU narrowly loses to Penn State last year, finishes with 1 loss, doesn't win the BIG 10, but they make it in over 2 loss Penn State. This year, the opposite happens, but somehow they deserve to be in over a 1 loss Wisconsin or Bama? Just, no.

Ohio State got stomped by a bad Iowa team. Bama took care of every team they should have beat. Ohio State beats Iowa then they'd be in the playoffs.

To be clear, I'm not saying Ohio State didn't deserve a spot in the playoffs. They deserved a spot as much as Alabama did. I don't think picking either one of them for the playoffs would be a wrong decision.

You can justify Ohio State based on the conference championship and probably a better "best win." However you can justify Alabama on the strength of the fact that they only lost one game instead of two and didn't have a bad loss while Ohio State got trounced by Iowa.

My point is that neither team clearly deserved the spot more.

tOSU got absolutely shellacked by Iowa and I think that is the big difference. I think if any 2-loss team would have been a legitimate pick for the championship tourney, it would have been tOSU. The problem is they are a 2-loss team.

Hearing Jeremy Pruitt likely to be named UT next HC and Tee Martin on board with being OC. I don't know how this will work out in the end, but if this happens, at least UT will be guaranteed to pull in some of the best recruiting classes. Those 2 are 2 of the absolute best recruiters in the nation.

I'm kind of surprised Pruitt would be willing to take the Tennessee job right now. He'd be stepping into a mess of a situation with only a couple weeks until the bulk of the best recruits are gone in the early signing period. If I'm Pruitt, I know that working with Saban I'm not going to have any trouble fielding tremendous defenses. I just sit back and wait until a better situation arises.
