Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

Word is the Marlins are more open now than previously before to trading both Yelich AND Realmuto.....would you go for broke and offer a package for both of them? Would you be willing to give up say

Flowers, Swanson, Allard, Soroka, and Pache for Yelich, Realmuto, Prado and cash?

Spitballing that may or maynot be enough for them.....

Then trade Markakis at the deadline.

Man that is super enticing to think about getting both. I’d put Allard, Soroka, Newcomb, Pache, and Riley in a deal for those 2. It would sting big time but it would still leave us with Gohara, Wright, Anderson, Fried, Teheran, Folty, Touki, and Sims for the rotation and enough money next year to buy another starter. An offensive core of Swanson, Albies, Acuna, Freeman, Yelich, Realmuto, and Inciarte would be top 2 or 3 in baseball.

If we can get those two we need to do it. They are worth about 8 wins, are young, affordable, and at positions of need.

Pass on Realmuto. Not that I don't like him, but he isn't amazing or anything. I'd rather not spend our prospect capital on a 3ish WAR catcher. Especially when Flowers is doing so well and we have at least 2 or 3 catchers in the minors who look promising and could be here within 2-3 years.

WIthout taking on a contract like Chen from the Marlins, I don’t think we would be able to get Yelich without giving up Acuna, Wright, or Gohara.
Not worth it to me. It’s going to cost too much at this point. Plus we don’t have the payroll really to be able to take on Chen and Prados contracts with all the contracts we just got from the Dodgers.

The Braves don’t have the payroll to lower the cost of acquiring Yelich, and if they give up the talent needed to get him straight up it won’t matter how good the OF is because the rest of the team will be too ****ty to compete.

We're in good position now to take on Chen's contract after the Kemp trade. Chen is owed significantly less this season compared to the 2 seasons after.

One move we could make is to send Markakis in a deal to get Yelich and Chen to help even out the money for this season. The Braves would take on 42 million dollars during the 19 and 20 seasons while only taking on about 6 mil extra this season. That would save the Marlins 48 million and rid them of their most difficult to move bad contract.

So that would be 99 million for 5 years of Yelich, if my math is correct.

If Yelich's deal was 2-3 years i'd pass but for 5 years all at below market, i think you gotta go for that.

Probably have to move Markakis to absorb some salary but if it's possible without trading Albies, Acuna i'd do it.

@jonmorosi
Sources: #Braves have checked in with #Marlins regarding Christian Yelich but talks have not progressed beyond that point. @MLBNetwork @MLB

They could do it if they would move Teheran, Markakis (as much money as possible) and maybe Inciarte assuming they get value.

I've previously put forth an offer for Yelich which I think matches up well for all teams involved.

Yankees get Julio and Vizcaino

Marlins get Frazier, Allard, Abreu(from Yankees), and Pache, and may be another guy inside out top 20 like Muller, Herbert, or Cumberland

Braves get Yelich

I would do that trade. Getting Yellich without giving up any of Acuna, Albies, Gohara, Soroka and Wright would be a great coup. I don't think it happens. But it is the kind of deal we should be kicking the tires on.

I think just about everyone would do that. The only problem is that the Yankees don't have a need for Arodys - where would they use him with Chapman, Betances, Robertson, Kahnle, Warren, and starters that they could break-in in the pen like Adams and Sheffield?

absurd overpay by the Rockies...i guess I won't be moving them from my list of dumb teams anytime soon

They were supposedly working hard with Borass to bring Holland back over the Christmas "break" - apparently he's not budging on 4 years. Haven't heard from anybody close to Greg about what the holdup was.

Was afraid this could happen - told them I hated it when he agreed to hire him.
