The Trump Presidency

I don't understand why we're rhetorically been moaning the plight of the emigration hardliners when 2/3-3/4 of both chambers would do a DACA/border/CHIP deal.

Irrelevant ... again.

Says you.

Err. What?

Ok, but he's from Arizona and ... it's immigration.

It's not irrelevant if you're claiming popular mandate for a harsh immigration stance. Not at all. More people voted for the other thing.

And, yes, I credit voices from diverse states more than those from, say, Iowa (hi, Steve King) when immigration is the topic.

If we have a corrupt administration and a president susceptible to blackmail because of potential financial crimes (only part of what Mueller is investigating), there can be no confidence to handle those issues which should hold more importance.

Don't you think the President being blackmailed over 'financial crimes' is a little hair-brained?

And even if he were, what influence might be exerted that would affect change on issues like health care, education, immigration, etc.?

Uh, no I don't. Considering established links between him and members of his family (and administration and campaign) with financial criminals.

I don't know what influence Putin would have or want to have over certain domestic issues, but I do know if we had a president who was proven to be a criminal, it would show a tendency to be just as susceptible to corruption from other places on those issues.

Exactly. Noticed thethe didn't call out Trump for the last minute revision in the tax bill that was thrown in to help benefit real estate investors like Trump.

I'm happy when anyone gets to keep more of their money. I'd be happy to talk about that any time you would like. All I know is that we are seeing real growth in this country. My field is ridiculously high in demand. Any time I want I can go find another job at 20-40K more then I am making now. Real estate guys want more money? Why should I care?

Well, I'm glad those last-minute favors and gifts were such a priority.

Arming the Ukriane was a stroke of brilliance from Putin.

Yeah, no. Who's claiming that? I said that the conservative 'strong borders' crowd earned their spot at the table. I didn't say that they should be afforded the loudest voice. Also, FWIW, more people voted for the other candidate, not the other "thing" (whatever that may be).

AMEX ain't accepted here.

We have no clue what was in the DACA bill that was being discussed.

Just LOL at this point.

You had people at the table willing to move to get something done. Support that or support status quo...then gripe about how nothing gets done.

How Liberal was the bill? From what I saw there was no end to chain migration. If that is in fact true thank GOD they didn't sign it.

The primary responsibility should be to govern. You can maintain your core principles while recognizing there are people just as smart and qualified as you are with different opinions. So you work together. The failure to do so and insistence on finger-pointing is what helped create the environment for the **** show we have now.

Financial criminals like Marc Rich?

Climbing to the top is a dirty sport.

Hawk is ok with all of it. I'm still a little fuzzy on how the specifics of how electing a manifestly unqualified grifter to the Presidency is going to fix our civic ills, but he's assured us that there is a master plan. So far it seems like:

1. Demystify the office by decoupling the Presidency from historical (and often specious and hypocritical) norms. So far, so good.

2. Hold the media and the political opposition to the same historical norms.

3. ????

4. Profit
