Hall Of Fame Announcement

Pedro at his peak was definitely the most dominant pitcher any of us have ever seen or maybe will ever see. He didn't have the longevity of Maddux or Johnson but at his peak he was better than either.

Kershaw. Pedro is still flying higher on the highs, but up to this point in their careers they're really close because Kershaws lows are much higher. Pedro with a 169 ERA+ and Kershaw with a 161. Respective to peers Kershaw has lead baseball in ERA+ 4 Times to Pedro's 3. Where Pedro gains his edge is FIP where he lead 3 times to Kershaw's 2. Pedro and Kershaw are very similar to each other.

The braves in the 90s had 4 (potentially 5) hall of famers and a hall of fame manager.

And only won once.

That hurts

Sucks major dick. That 5th potential HOFer may not make it but he played at a HOF level with the Braves. 96 broke the team imo and they never really had the same swagger after that. Up to that point they had represented the NL in the World Series in 4 of the last 5. They only one after that was 99. Had they won in 96 I think you are looking at the Braves and not the Yankees having a run of WS titles.

I hate Jim Leyritz.

Well, no I don't, but that HR hurt.

The later Yankees teams were just better. We barely competed in '98. You'd have to believe that losing in 1996 would have lead them to blow everything up or something. Braves pitching was destined to decline either way. And then the owner lost interest.

Meh. Not going to say how I feel about a team with 4.9 HOF players and a manger that got in HOF only because of said players. So you guys can never guess how I really feel. #Bravesway

I'm gonna say, overall I feel pretty good about the team with the HOFs winning all those division titles even if I wish they might have won another ring or two. oh well.

What? IMO the 98 Braves team was the best in the entire run. That team was #1 in position player and pitching WAR that year. It wasn't a matter of on field talent but just they were just another good team every year. After 96 that swagger was gone and the Yankees were the seemingly unbeatable team. That is until their closer lost it against the Dbacks and they were just another good team year in year out.

To be fair 98 Yankees were right there with the Braves. The difference maker was the defense. Sometimes the more potent offense beats the pitching and defense.

1998 Yankees won 114 games.

Oh I see— the 99 braves barely competed in the series.

In 98 not being able to solve the Padres kind of qualifies as the same thing.

True. '99 Braves were in every game but never in the Series. It doesn't make sense but that was reality.

With the Padres, wasn't it Kevin Brown, specifically? So much so that he was heavily targeted to be signed so that they wouldn't have to face him!

:JSIDK:

I remember Smoltz saying the series was over when they went down 3-0 and being disappointed but also knowing he was right and that it was probably about over for the 90s braves core.

And the Braves won 106 games. Top to bottom it was the best team the Braves have had.

Despite Chipper having an unreal season, that team was in massive trouble after Big Cat got cancer.

Lopez went down halfway through the year as well which didn't help. Chipper carried that team somehow.

Also Maddux, Millwood, and Smoltz were pretty amazing.
