The Trump Presidency

I think approval ratings are virtually useless (because did anybody ask you, or me -- better yet, has anybody on this board ever been polled?) and that has always been my take irrespective of how the numbers tally up.

But a 10-point jump is really impressive for a guy who by virtually all popular portrayals is overwhelmingly embattled, senile, cheated on his brand newly minted baby mama, and watches a special Gorilla channel.

I think that Trump has had a good run politically for the last month or so, and that is being honestly reflected in the polling, even while noting that Rasmussen is always an outlier, rightly or wrongly.

Except Rasmussen isn't the outlier here.

It's always been, and still is, the outlier in terms of % approval. The delta has tightened across most polls, yes.

The issue here isn't whether or not Rasmussen is traditionally an outlier, it's whether or not it's an outlier in this polling period (and it's not).

I am not sure how that is at all relevant but ok

it is somewhat out of context...but the trend is my friend is a quote traders like to use...and there are a lot of traders who trade based on technical indicators of momentum in whatever market they are interested in

that kind of trading strategy can lead to lemming like behavior

so there you have it

as for trends in political polls, i suspect that for those of us who have a political point of view the trend is important when going the right way...and when it turns we file it in some dark corner

Right - so not relevant to my point at all.

When I look at polls - I don't care if it's 40 or 45 or 65... what I care about is where it was last month, and the month before, and the direction of the numbers. Trump's numbers moving substantially in either direction is significant.

The thing that can get depressing is that millions

and millions

of Americas want to be lied to

by a guy who'd sell them their own spit.

Trump is about to learn why a smart President

doesn’t boast about the markets.

Glad to see 57 doesn’t have a hangover from celebrating the market collapse yesterday.

It's definitely a mistake for Trump to tie himself so closely to markets. Markets can go down in great economic times and vice versa.

The problem with 57 is he actually thinks the market decline yesterday was related to Trump
