Braves close to signing Peter Moylan

I'm glad Moylan is back. I don't see much risk and he is a fan favorite. I am disappointed Cabrera was DFA, though. Unless he is injured beyond repair, I would give him and his 105mph fastball another chance.

Someone will have to claim him for us to lose him though. No way does he have enough service time to elect FA.

that is if I am remembering the rules right.

"The Braves have designated righty Mauricio Cabrera for assignment, per a club announcement (h/t David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, on Twitter). His roster spot will go to fellow right-hander Peter Moylan, whose signing is now official."

Why drop Cabrera this soon? I know he is out of options. But I was hoping he get a shot at least.

I wonder if he lost some velocity or something making it less likely he sticks either way.

I'm guessing some team will claim him

Flat out stupid in what will likely be a punt year.

The Braves outrighted right-hander Mauricio Cabrera, who has cleared waivers, per David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (via Twitter). Atlanta will surely be glad to hold onto the fireballing reliever, who could be an intriguing piece of the late-inning unit if he’s able to get a hold of his arsenal. Cabrera’s control evaporated in 2017 but he did carry a 2.82 ERA in 38 1/3 MLB innings in the prior season.

No one claimed him though.

I suppose they thought this was the best time to try slipping him through waivers and looks like they guessed right. Now he can try to get back on track in the minors and they don't have to worry about losing him later on before the season if he does well in ST.
