Parkland School Shooting

The kids are doing kid things. I take more issue with the adults who are forgetting to act like adults.

In 1963 John Lewis was 23.

from Wikipedia:

In 1960, Lewis became one of the 13 original Freedom Riders. There were seven whites and six blacks who were determined to ride from Washington, D.C., to New Orleans in an integrated fashion. At that time, several states of the old Confederacy still enforced laws prohibiting black and white riders from sitting next to each other on public transportation. The Freedom Ride, originated by the Fellowship of Reconciliation and revived by James Farmer and CORE, was initiated to pressure the federal government to enforce the Supreme Court decision in Boynton v. Virginia (1960) that declared segregated interstate bus travel to be unconstitutional. In the South, Lewis and other nonviolent Freedom Riders were beaten by angry mobs, arrested at times and taken to jail. When CORE gave up on the Freedom Ride because of the violence, Lewis and fellow activist Diane Nash arranged for the Nashville students to take it over and bring it to a successful conclusion.

That would have been age 20

whatever happened to that cute Bible verse ?

It's funny, when I was 18 people I had gone to school with were being drafted, shipped overseas ,shot at and sometimes not coming back from Nam.
But, kids just being kids, right.

This overview might be worth the read:

Feels like 1967 all over again up in here.

Judging the mettle of a movement by pictures of crowds.

Do I need to find and quote Bible verse instructing parents and adults to guide their children well, or are we good with just admitting your post has no relevancy to what I said?

You know what's trending on Snapchat today, 57?

58 years ago this month, 4 North Carolina A&T students

held first major sit-in of civil rights movement at Greensboro Woolworth.

They were 18 & 19 at time. A reminder of the power young activists have

Brave men who did a great service for all mankind. They have my complete respect.

Do you want to be the one to compare them to this guy, leading the charge on the recent protest? Because I wouldn't mention them in the same breath.

Well one just said it might as well had been Rubio pulling the trigger.

That's a frightening sentiment and I think we should all be quick to condemn that sentiment.

Like I said Julio, I've seen more negative press against the NRA than against Cruz. Why is that the case?

Personally, I do think that Rubio and Rick Scott and others bear a measure of responsibility. I don't endorse that particular formulation, but it's laughworthy that you think that sentiment is "frightening" but that the sentiment that anyone should be able to buy any gun any time is not.

I've seen more negative press against the NRA than against Cruz. Why is that the case?

Because the NRA is firmly ensconced in the halls of power, and they advocate for the ability of people like him to legally and easily purchase weapons of war, and for folks like the LV shooter to easily and legally obtain accessories that make mass murder even easier. If your goal is preventing future tragedies of the same kind, why would you not focus on the systems and institutions that enable them?

Wow, never heard of Cameron Kasky until just now.
I would bet the farm ( I do own one) that one of the four at the lunch counter said that and probably worse at some point.
Reassuring to know some one is here to inform us all someone - some where said something -------- about something ----- and it gets a something response.
You commented and had thoughts about Russian bot stories but still go right ahead and post something from someone no one ever heard of before .
Jill Stein wants to legalize weed and something something about Bernie Sanders

You have 4 school age daughters or three, I forget ?

Hmmm. The advent of social media has certainly changed the equation, but if you read up on the history of the era, you'll find that civil rights and anti-war activists in the 1960s, whose virtue we now accept and adopt almost universally, were rhetorically attacked on the same grounds and often with the same language that contemporary activists are assailed with today.

You, in particular, have posted a lot of negative stuff about various protests and marches. I think it's fair to do a bit of self-inventory and ask what tune you'd have been singing then.

Kasky is clearly suffering from PTSD.

You know, from hiding in a closet and witnessing his teachers, friends, and coaches being slaughtered by battlefield weaponry.

ah, hit a nerve did I .

Does your professed belief lie in conflict with your political views.
Billy Graham died yesterday.

Let's hope his racist misogynistic world view goes with him .
Or are his words those that we should turn to now.

I trust the 16 year old that marched yesterday that hid in closets

nice

good to know Cameron has seen the bull**** for a while and isn't scared to call it out at a young age

maybe this country isn't lost just yet

the tolerant left

I missed the last "left" meeting.
Can't say if being under 18 qualifies or disqualifies you from being a memeber of "the left"

Yeah, that's hilarious. Glad you find so much humor in the situation.

I thought this one was funny:

Ah yes. Because that's what's happening.

Too bad the "adults" keep throwing up **** against the wall and consider the idea that more heavily regulating the actual weapons might be at least part of the solution to be sacrilege. Oh, and then there's the "adults" pushing "crisis actor" and "false flag op" conspiracy theories. Yes, the latter, many of them part of the alt-right, should be punched in the face.

I mean ****, you need them to protect your home and pass down to your son one day. Such a warm moment.
