The Trump Presidency

Remember folks: Jared, Ivanka, Hope and Rob Porter were the first string.

Wait until you see the second string and third string.

It's been my contention from the start that hiring and retaining competent people was going to be the biggest stumbling block for the Trump administration. I've missed some guesses here and there, but I think that one has held up pretty well.

Nothing illustrates that better than the presence of Carter Page and George Papadopoulos on that list of foreign policy advisers he gave to the Washington Post. Those are the types of people who have populated his administration. There are some very good people as well, but they are few and far between.

The kinds of folks this administration would tend to attract are all too predictable. Grifters and weirdos, con artists and flatterers. Fox News commentators and loyalists on the make. A lot of the good hires are already gone or on the way out. I shudder to think what the next crop is going to be like.

I wouldn't be opposed to Scaramucci being given a second chance.

Exhibit 4,180:

Ross had already invited steel and aluminum executives to the White House for an 11 a.m. meeting on Thursday. But Ross, according to a person with direct knowledge, hadn't told the White House who the executives were. As a result, White House officials were unable to conduct a background check on the executives to make sure they were appropriate for the president to meet with and they were not able to be cleared for entry by secret service. According to a person with direct knowledge, even White House chief of staff John Kelly was unaware of their names.

By midnight Wednesday, less than 12 hours before the executives were expected to arrive, no one on the president's team had prepared any position paper for an announcement on tariff policy, the official said. In fact, according to the official, the White House counsel's office had advised that they were as much as two weeks away from being able to complete a legal review on steel tariffs.

"trade wars are good, and easy to win."

I'm just amazed anyone with a brain still supports this clown as president.

I thought it was possible he possessed another gear of competence that the public had not seen, an efficient side to his character to match that spiffy outfit. Apparently not. Watching people have to listen to him babble on in public meetings on various topics, where he comes across as the least informed person in the room, is indeed embarrassing.
