The Good, Bad, and Ugly of ST so far

I still believe we are going to read about a large contract for both albies/Acuna in two months. I believe that Liberty has the money and to give the fans the assurance of two cornerstone players will work well to get people through the gate.

I also believe that 2018 is a dark horse for a wc spot and Acuna being up on April 1st goes a long way to getting us there.

Aaaaaannnnnnddddd here we go...

Thethe, by having him down just a couple of weeks we gain another full year of control. That's 162 games of a raking man-god in his prime.

I’ll be irate if they don’t leave him down.

Do yourself a favor and read up on the largest pre-arb FA deals ever given out at each class of service time. All teams easily have the money to hand out those deals. Those are not the kind of deals that require special permission from ownership.

I’ll help get you started: Tim Anderson’s recent extension is the absolute minimum to sign Albies. Add about 10% and you’ll be in the ballpark. I would be in favor of them doing it tomorrow.

Seriously, educate yourself before you hit “post”. Please. Otherwise you are just a 16 year old girl with Pom poms cheering for the team with the prettiest helmet.

I am aware. As I've said I still don't like it and hate to root for a team that blatantly screw's a player that's clearly ready. If you guys are all comfortable with this then I don't want to hear negative words about agents like Boras out of any of you.

I think a player whose made very little in acuna would be open to a long term contract. I think the goodwill of not bending him over for 15+ days puts the braves in a positive light with his family during negotiations. I don't want acuna here for 7 years. I want him here for 15+ years.

It may not work out but good faith goes a long way with humans.

Every player is different. Anderson got 2 million for being drafted. That's a much larger sum than either albies/Acuna got. I don't want to give albies and acuna a 6 year deal. I'd shoot for 8+ and front load more than a common deal so they see the dollars sooner as well as the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

I mean, somebody has to write the checks, right?

The Indians' Chief Wahoo batting helmets were always my favorite.

Just look at that smile. That dude is so happy that it's making me happy.

Sigh...This is exactly what I mean about being willingly ignorant, yet still spouting off your uninformed opinion. Anderson's contract guarantees him $25M over 6 years, and has 2 team options for years 7 and 8. It's exactly the deal you're suggesting for Albies and Acuna, but you don't even know the parameters of precedent setting deals to frame your suggestions.

In fact, the Cards just signed DeJong to an extension this morning. He is a middle infielder, just like Albies. He got a small signing bonus ($200k), just like Albies. He has less than 1 year of service time, just like Albies.

He signed for $26M guaranteed over 6 years, just eclipsing Anderson's deal...just like I suggested for Albies.

The Cards also get 2 options for another $25.5M total, just like Anderson's deal....just like we want to see with Albies.

So again, please educate yourself. The info is out there, and I pointed you to it. The DeJong deal very clearly lays out what an Albies extension will have to look like, just like the Anderson deal laid it out last year...if only you had bothered to look.

Snitker has hinted a couple times that they will start the season with a 7 man pen and go to an 8 man pen when the schedule gets busier.

This means a 5 man bench coming out of spring training: Suzuki, Culberson, Adams (also the weak side of the platoon in left), Santana and Ruiz.

I don't count Tucker since he would be the nominal starter in left.

There is still a chance we pick someone up. In which case one of the 5 listed above would not be on the opening day roster.

One of the problems I've uncovered is that neither Santana nor Adams hits LHP very well. With the addition of Schrimpf, Santana's versatility doesn't mean as much as it did prior to that acquisition. The thing the bench seems to need more than anything right now is someone who can hit LHP.

The Braves already are a team that doesn’t promote a good faith relationship with their players. This is evidenced by their “File and Trial” stance with players in arbitration. Are you suggesting we give Acuna everything he wants in arbitration too because I’d argue arbitration hearings are far more damaging to player team relationships than keeping a player down 2 weeks to a month.

Cultural reorientation.

Fixed.

Last I checked, the organization isn’t banning the image from games, nor buying up old branded paraphernalia to destroy, nor attempting to scrub its history from physical and digital archives—they’re just making the decision to no longer profit from the image (after one final cash-grab in 2018, during which the so-inclined can buy up enough Chief Wahoo merch to keep anyone happy a lifetime).

This is a problem only until Acuna comes up. There is a need for someone on the bench to pinch hit against LHP. It seems to me there will be some willingness to use the catcher who is not playing in those kinds of late inning situations. So after Acuna comes up the main pinch hitters will probably be Tucker and the other catcher.

Cultural reorientation. Can I take that class at the Reeducation camp?
