Braves sign OF Ezequiel Carrera

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Braves have agreed to a deal with outfielder Ezequiel Carrera.

No word yet on the terms involved. Carrera was recently cut loose by the Blue Jays after batting .282/.356/.408 over 325 plate appearances in 2017. He's capable of playing all over the outfield and makes for a useful bench player.

Me too since he brought him to Toronto. Carrera is a bad defender in the OF though. He is coming off a -14 DRS season despite hitting better last year than his track record. That said, it is only a minor league deal so he may just end up someone we can call up later for the bench if needed.

I think he is being brought in to compete with Tucker, Ruiz, Schimpf for primary pinch hitter from the left side. Right now I'd say he is behind Tucker and ahead of the other two.

I expect Tucker to get that spot. The good news for him is that Tucker may be worse on defense overall. So if it came down to that he might have a slight edge. Plus he is an old favorite of AA too.

I'm ok with Tucker in that role. And I think it would be a good thing having Carrera providing some depth from AAA.
