Minor league assignments

They will all be posted at the MiLB team sites when announced by the farm team. Looks like the Fire Frogs' essentially have theirs posted, including Wright, Didder, Cumberland, Harrington, Hellinger. Salazar as manager.

Gwinnett, Mississippi seem like tentative 2018 rosters as well. Acuna at Gwinnett, Allard, Soroka(?) and Riley at Mississippi.

Would much rather see Wright at miss and soroka at Gwinnett? Are we keeping soroka at miss over wisler and Blair? Forget those 2

Those are just leftover rosters from when the season ended last year. Someone within the organization has already been quoted saying Wright will likely start in Mississippi.

That's always been my impression as well. The teams release official rosters about a week before their regular season begins.

Would be likewise surprising to see Soroka (but less so Allard/Riley) not in AAA.

I see no reason for allard to be back at miss. He pitched 150 innings there last season with an era at 3.18. He may not end up being an mlb guy, but he has earned a trip to AAA

Fair. But, given scouting reports, I also think it’s more likely the team asks Allard to make some changes here and there, which would likely be better accomplished at a level he’s repeating. Either way, it’s a huge year for Allard to prove the scouting cynicism on him right or wrong.

Not sure how much "scouting cynicism" there actually is since he hasn't exactly started sliding down lists just yet, but that's not worth fussing over There is absolutely no reason to "rush" he, Acuna, Riley, or Soroka, but there's also no reason to send them back to a level they've dominated to keep guys like Sims, Wisler, Blair, Schimpf, Adams, or Santana around either - you need to challenge them.

The Bourjos, Flaherty, and even Sanchez signings are fine if you're trying to add depth to the MLB roster to keep you from giving in to the temptation to push the kids too fast, but there's really no reason that those four shouldn't be playing every day (or pitching every five days) at Gwinnett. You do KNOW you've got more in Allard, Soroka, Acuna, and Riley than you have in Sims, Wisler, Blair, Schimpf, Santana, Adams, and Avery right now, so there's really no reason to let those guys get in the way any longer than tomorrow.

I did not dismiss them as leftover rosters because Isabel Sanchez was listed with Gwinnett, among others.

Allard didn't really dominate AA. While he definitely held his own (especially at his age) it was more of a solid year then dominating. Also consider his drop in K-rate and reports of declining velocity and I think it's a no brainier to send him back to AA to start the year. He's more likely to see better talent there anyways.

Allard...

K9 = 7.74, bb9 = 2.70, FIP = 3.27

Soroka...

K9 = 7.32, bb9 = 1.99, FIP = 3.19

Soroka's numbers were right in line with career averages though and still decidedly better than Allards.

Babip...

Allard = .310

Soroka = .275

I don’t know about decidedly better. For the record, I think soroka will be better, but this is about should allard so to AAA. He absolutely should imo

Again, compared to their career averages, Allard's numbers declined. Combined with the reports of declining velocity and I think starting the year in AA is just fine, if not preferable.

Things haven't shaken out yet, but with Blair, Wisler, Sims, and Fried all in Gwinnett, they'll be absorbing a lot of innings early on. I think the pertinent question is how many innings do you want Allard to get early. If you want him in a rotation, it will probably be in Mississippi. Of course, of the four guys I mentioned, a couple could be DFAd before the season, which would open a slot in the Gwinnett rotation.

Not sure about what is in line with allard’s numbers considering he pitched more innings last season (150.0) than his previous 2 years combined (103.2). Maybe his high K rate (9.25) at A ball was a product of a SSS (60.1 ip). Soroka threw 143.0 ip in A ball, so more likely to be the real him

I'm pretty sure Allard will be in AAA and that's where he should be.

I'm thinking the AAA rotation will be: Soroka, Allard, Fried, Sims, Wisler (probably giving way to Gohara for a while).
