I watched a lot of Rome. A few thoughts -
Muller had 5 Ks, 6 ground outs and 0 fly ball outs. The Juan Soto bomb was impressive, but Muller came back and struck him out next at bat. Pretty encouraging first start for Muller. Wish his velo was higher than the 89-91 (89-93 in the first) that twitter says.
I didn’t realize how raw Jean Carlos Encarnacion is. You’ll see 2-3 in the box score, but one was an infield single and the other was a broken bat ground ball that hugged the line and went for a double. He swings at a ton. His approach is a long ways away from making me optimistic about him. He also looked extremely uncomfortable throwing the ball to first. He had two throwing errors and looked like he was really hesitant to cut it loose.
Waters is fun. Watching him run on the triple was impressive. He swung at a lot of bad offspeed pitches in the dirt, which I think was reported to have hurt him in Danville last year. That’ll be something to monitor.
The ball really jumps off Ramos’ bat. Loud fly out to left and a double to right that looked easy.
I missed most of Izzy Wilson’s at bats, including the triple. Looked like a good night for him. He got hit by a pitch in the one AB I saw, and it was really scary. Got him on the left arm and he was in a lot of pain but stayed in.
I have no idea why Thomas Burrows is still in Rome. He’s way too good for that level.
