One Sunday driving back from the beach my parents came up with a game to distract me. I was probably 6 or 7.
We would each count dumpsters on our respective side of the highway. The highest total would win. But if there was a cemetery on your side of the highway, your dumpster count would be reset.
There are a surprising number of cemetary’s on a 70 minute drive down state highways so it was a pretty back and forth contest. I remember thinking it was great fun trying to watch both sides of road like a hawk.
Any event, my dad and I were on the driver’s side team and as we pulled into town he made a detour to pass a cemetery on my mother’s passenger side.
My dad could be a pretty good guy sometimes.
I went to bed really happy.
