GDT: 23 Apr 18 @ 6:40 pm...Braves @ Reds...No Comargo :(

As far as Joey Bats goes, I am hoping we have a surprise trade of Markakis soon as AA didn't rule out using Joey Bats some in the outfield. Maybe AA thinks he can do that soon and will play Joey Bats more in the outfield at that point while using him at third now.

This is very odd, and is the first questionable move by the new AA FO.

They almost certainly have Camargo pegged as a utility guy, which is probably the correct role for him.

It's just odd that Bautista sat out the first month of the season when the Braves were supposedly willing to make him their starter at 3B. Why not sign him during the off season and not waste this time?

It's possible that due to the team's unexpected start Liberty has pushed a little more money into the player personnel pool. I'm curious to see how much more, if any, they add if the team is within sniffing distance of a wild card in July.

First, Liberty does not set a payroll for the Braves.

Second, a 12-8 start gets the team an additional $1M in the budget?

Here’s the thing, and ensheff or thewupk please correct me if I’m wrong, but I would assume it’s actually becoming easier to hide a guy at 3B then a corner OF spot thanks to the fly all revolution.

As long as Bautista doesn’t have stone hands I bet the Braves could mitigate Joey’s defensive limitations at third easier than they could in the outfield.

Love Ender, but I find it extremely frustrating when he starts off a game taking a weak ass swing on a first pitch and pops/flys out.

Joey Bats had a -8 DRS playing RF last season in Toronto, he should be better than Tucker in LF if he's still in good shape and certainly no worse.

SS, 2B, and OF positions have seen drops in total chances, while 3B has essentially stayed flat since 2007.

While the number of fly balls has increased, so to have the number of HRs and Ks.

The order of most plays seen goes: CF/SS (8500+), 2B (~8000), 3B (~7000), RF (~6500), LF (~6000).

Middle defenders are still most valuable, they just aren't as valuable as years past.

30 pitches, bases loaded, zero runs.

A microcosm of why they Braves are currently middle of the pack in WAR despite good numbers on the surface.
