Braves sign Bautista

2-14 with 2 singles, 2 BB, 4 K at Gwinnett.

They signed him for very little and never have to promote him. It's worth pointing out that he hasn't had much live action and he's elderly so I wouldn't draw a final conclusion just yet. But yeah, he's not likely to be a major boon to the Braves. It's why he was sitting around and ready to take very little for a chance to play.

But if my alternative is Rio Ruiz in Gwinnett, I don't mind the exercise.

I doubt there is anyone that is upset about signing Bustista.. I think what people are not happy about is him being gifted the 3rd base job because he did something in the past. I don't want to loose games watching some washed up guy pop out and make errors because he is buddies with our GM.. I would rather watch Jo-Gun weakly ground out and at least answer a question.

His performance doesn't deserve a promotion to even AAA much less the majors.

Exactly. Again though, I would love to be wrong, and I am often haha

I wouldn't look at his being moved to AAA as a promotion. He's wasn't ever going to earn his way back up the ladder. AAA is where he needed to be, IMO.

I'll be irritated if they bring him up before he's at least shown proof of concept of a comeback season at AAA. But I realize they may have promised him that to sign him so cheaply, so I am prepared to be irritated.

This move makes sense, He lives in Tampa and we are playing Tampa on this road trip.

So introduce him to the home crowd, before going on the road to his home town.

So strange for a front offense that prioritizes defense to do this. I get that there's not much harm in trying it, but the chance of him acceptable at third is just so low.

Maybe Swanson to DL? Saw that from someone on twitter.

To me it could make sense. Give the sore wrist a little more time.

Possible, but radio said they expect Swanson back this weekend. My guess is Saturday with lhp on the mound

Like him or not it is exciting to see. First home series with Acuna on the team and Bautista in the lineup too so the park should be packed.

I'm okay putting Swanson on the DL, retro back to the other day. Give him time to be 100% and not make it worse....

With Bautista being up, this is along the lines of the line up I would like to see

Albies 2b
Acuna LF
Freeman 1B
Bautista 3B
Markakis RF
Suzuki C
Camargo SS
Pitcher Spot
Inciarte CF

That lineup is deep and Bautista should protect Freeman

I'm not so sure a 37-year-old who posted an 80 wRC+ last year is going to strike fear in an opposing pitcher. I like the idea of breaking up the lefties in the 3/4 spots in the order, but I'd rather Bautista hit 7th and trust his pitch recognition in front of the pitcher.

It it gonna be
