Fried doesn't have much hope as a starter, or pitcher at all in the majors because of how straight his fastball is. A "well located fastball" at 90-92 can be hit by anyone.

I don't hate him, I just don't think he's ready. He needs to develop a good two-seamer to get to the next level. His control needs a little work too. He leaves too many balls in the middle of the plate.

He's certainly not a finished product but development doesn't stop at the minor leagues. We are at the time when he needs to get 20 starts to see what he is.
