Hey guys we are rolling. Youthful high energy is killing it on offense. Hey I have an idea. Let’s throw and old wash up right in the middle and watch it take off. What could go wrong.
I'm not so sure a 37-year-old who posted an 80 wRC+ last year is going to strike fear in an opposing pitcher. I like the idea of breaking up the lefties in the 3/4 spots in the order, but I'd rather Bautista hit 7th and trust his pitch recognition in front of the pitcher.
Guys like him demand you at least pay attention.....With Chipper, when he was struggling, teams still respected his power and it affected the line up....I don't think that is something tangible you see on a a stat line.
It's fun to say this stuff, but it's just not accurate. Chipper never had a year even close to what Bautista did last season.
I'm not saying I hate the move either. Just hope the front office is willing to move on quickly if it doesn't work out.
I agree he shouldn't have a long leash. But I believe there are aspects to him being on the team that benefit us that you may not see on a stat line.
For instance, he is credited with helping Encarnacion when he came to the Blue Jays. Maybe he passes along some knowledge to Acuna and Albies....

Yeah, those 2 need some direction. They are really lost at the moment.

Actually, Bautista took that punch like a champ. Didn't knock him down or really even phase him.

I'm amazed it didn't drop him, so credit where credit is due, but it clearly put some tweety birds in orbit around his dome.
Speaking of credit where it’s due: I get not loving Bautista, for various reasons (though I’ve always been a fan, myself); but it mystifies me that more disapprobation and disdain isn’t directed at Odor. I personally think he’s a substantially douchier player—and that sucker-punch is a great example of it.
