The Trump Presidency

My theory on NK is that Trump made a deal with China and China is the one putting pressure on NK. It obviously looks a lot better if we dont know China has the proverbial gun to their head. I was kind of wondered if this whole trade war was done to benefit China in some way but it comes off in the media as anti-China. I wont be surprised if Trump does a lot of business in China after his presidency.

So what were the two meetings with Pompeo about? Just establishing some diplomatic contact?

Seems they were oversold.

"oversold"

sure.

You have the Asahi, Fuji, and NHK news networks at your fingertips and live less than 400 miles from Seoul.

Unless you live in a box, it's pretty clear what has and has not been accomplished so far.

I'm not sure why we keep bumping into this veil of ignorance.

Oh, wait ...

I do live in a box, as do you, I assume, but I haven't been deked by Kim Jong Un's hospitality campaign. It seems they are finished with the testing phase of the program and simply gonna milk the situation for all they can. Other than that . . .

I see that you are still repeating vague generalities. Could it be because the "accomplishments", if there indeed are any, are indeed vague and general? NK released a few prisoners and did so in their own sweet time, making America look silly by jumping the gun. NK has implied that they are willing to decrease the hostile rhetoric and now they suddenly feel disrespected again. Instead of fire and fury, Trump has been been corralled into imposing more sanctions. What's new? Same ole, same ole, imo.

But this is all good, if it really is more of the same. There's stability in sameness; call it balanced resistance. It is, however, a far cry from the Trump foreign policy ticker tape parade suggested by the SK official on the WH grounds for one, and by the few but vocal Trump bootlickers on this site.

Offensive charm or charm offensive?

Rather prophetic, it appears.

The US-South Korean drills are scheduled for late-March and comes at a critical point in negotiations with North Korea. Following the South Korean envoy's meeting with Kim Jong-un, the officials traveled to Washington D.C to share details of their meeting with their US counterparts, national security adviser H.R. McMaster and CIA director Mike Pompeo.

"These exercises could actually end up pushing the US even more out of the actual core negotiations because if what you have here is the Americans causing trouble, to disrupt an otherwise peaceful track, that's a problem for both North and South Korea," Pape said.

Referring to North Korea, Pape said, "Even the steps they're taking now, by not overreacting to American exercises, this is giving [the US] more rope to hang itself with the South Koreans."

What's your position here?

Do you have one that extends beyond this predictable, scattershot hatred of the President as it relates to the Korean peninsula?

It's just that I find it - difficult - to rationalize with the fabrications and simplifications you've made a habit of substituting for fact.

I mean, on the subject of generalities, you stick me with rhetorical gimmickry like "in their own sweet time" and "jumping the gun" and "same ole, same ole" and "balanced resistance" (whatever that actually means) and "foreign policy ticker tape parade". It's hard to debate or even respond to scenarios that you have devised out of thin air, or contorted to the point where they aren't even applicable to the negotiations as they stand right now.

Is your position that nothing has been accomplished yet?

Is that the conversation you want to have?

Or do you want to have the conversation (again) about your belief that North Korea isn't a threat?

Do you think that this summit isn't going to happen?

Take a stand on something.

ah yes, Obama planted a spy in trump's campaign. Obama, after all, was in charge of hiring people for trump's campaign.

never mind that the trump campaign literally hired an Israeli company to spy on Obama admin officials.

hates fake news, but throws wild, baseless claims all over the place. lies every single day. literally constantly. but we can trust him.

if this happened trump wouldn't be able to stop himself from tweeting about the great deal he made with china to stop NK. this works if we have no clue who donald trump the person is. since we do, this isn't plausible.
