THURSDAY MINORS REPORT 5/17/18:

Demerritte.....could take Albies spot...

I'm too lazy to check the who the posters were that thought that might have been in the realm of possibility.

In fairness to clvclv, the Rays didn't get anywhere near value for Odorizzi. I realize the Rays couldn't (or didn't want to) pay Adams $5 million (or thereabouts) per year, but he's more than Jermaine Palacios (whom the Rays inexplicably put in AA where he's cruising along with a .489 OPS). Braves got stuck with Adams similarly to the Kelly Johnson situation an eon ago. Who will trade for a guy everyone knows will be non-tendered.

I think this went in conjunction to the trade Ender keep Mallex vibe. What is more valuable. Trading the better player and getting a horse hide return or just keeping the better player. I hope no one really thought TD was equal to Ozzie.

posi brave in me hopes Wright is intentionally pitching for development and not overall results and that's the issue here. It's not like he has been in the organization for years. Or he is just a bum. One of the two.

That's part of it, but there's no sense in explaining what was behind the statement - and no need to - which is why I've never bothered to try.

Someone's going to latch onto whatever they can, and it's not worth wasting time with except for them.

Zimmerman has to move to High A soon. There’s nothing left for him to prove in Rome, and we aren’t learning if he’s actually anything of a prospect by watching a 23-year-old carve up a bunch of 18-year-olds.

I don't know what Zimmerman's ceiling is, but it's pretty obvious his floor is higher than Low-A. Of course, he is a 23-year-old playing against guys considerably younger. He got shelled like corn his second start, but he's been pretty solid outside of that.

Agreed. Certainly not expecting him to be much, but I wish they’d promote him so we can at least see.

The thing with Wright is that we have all seen the knockout pitches from Twitter. So what’s holding him back?

I would guess it's consistency. AA, like AAA, is getting "older," so he is facing quite a few players with considerable professional experience. The mistake pitches he made at the college level probably didn't hurt him much. At this level, mistakes get tattooed.

i'm really hoping the org just has him working on stuff and are using the patience we can currently afford to give him. but i am def disappointed.

It is pretty strange. I thought he would be a fast mover. Sometimes when you see a guy dominant one start and not the next, they “may” be having him work on other pitches etc. let’s hope that’s it. I doubt that’s the case though.

There seems to be a long list of highly regarded Vandy pitchers who have not panned out. Sonny Gray the exception?

WP: Zimmermann (4-2) 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K (2.38)

Keeping Zimmerman in Rome is getting silly, but I don't see an easy fix. Who do you move from Florida's rotation to make room? The simplest fix I can see is to replace Franco in Mississippi with one of the Florida guys, to make room for Zimmerman in Florida.

The entire farm is just loaded with SPs that are either excelling or can't be given up on yet. So much pitching.
