Forget anything and everything about Machado. Braves need pitching if they are going to stay contenders. Starting and relief.

If you need starters and relievers, you aren't really close. I wouldn't go all in. Just use our young pitchers and hope they're ready next season

Who gives a **** what you said. We could all see he needed to throw more strikes. All I care about is results. Which the last 2 have sucked. Nobody thought he was a #1. Guy still has plenty chance to be a solid MLB pitcher.

I’m a fan of the Braves first. I couldn’t care less about being right or wrong or whether you are right or wrong. I just want to Braves to win baseball games.

I'm trying to stay hush hush but the walks cause a twofold problem...and honestly that twofold problem gets worse when you have a much better hitting club that knows they're better off to just hold the bat because they'll get walks and eventually a cookie to hammer.

Simple story, Newcomb throws more strikes period or he's not a starting pitcher.

We have a fair amount of starting pitching depth. Allard in AAA. Gohara currently in the pen but pitched 5 innings in his last start in AAA. Fried, McCarthy and Soroka currently on the DL and due back at varying points later this year. I think that's a fairly low priority. Newcomb's recent struggles do not change anything in that regard

Pen does need a situational lefty.

Certainly. Command is not just walking people but throwing way to many cookies as well.

Stuff 4 = not a starting pitcher now? I guess Newcomb is the next Folty.

I think Newk bounces back in his next start against the Marlins (2 starts away). D-backs are prolly too good for him to do better than 3 runs in 6 IP

Buts not like the first 15 starts this year don’t count. Is he that good, no. Is he this bad. No. They would be like saying Ozzie was the player he was during his bad stretch. Obviously he’s bounced back and is back raking.

It really gets suspicious when every good hitting club just holds the bat and says, "you can't throw 3 strikes before four balls".

I guess we're seeing Gohara today and yep we are.

Why do teams not run constantly on us? Bob Horner could steal on the braves
We have the tandem with the worst arms in MLB. Their caught stealing has been atrocious for like 3 years. Flowers almost had a year without throwing guys out as a starter in 2016 (5% CS) and Suzuki has had several years in the teens and is at 10% CS right now.

Luckily ~half the teams in MLB don’t hit well

I agree he’s not exactly first choice for playoff starter though

I agree with that. That’s obviously one of the things that makes good teams good.

Newks basically the same as we all thought he was preseason. The exception is we have seen a very good stretch from him. Still has sane lingering questions around him.

2 good starts vs Washington, good start vs cubs considering conditions, and a good start at Colorado. Not like he only pitched well vs Marlins

Newk's FIP and xFIP numbers very little changed from last year. Slight improvement in walk rate offset by slight decline in K rate.
