Anderson

4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 SO

83 pitches

Lots of deep counts - sure wish he'd start reigning those in.

I know folks don't like to hear the idea that some of the reason behind Anderson's higher BB Rate should be hung on the less-talented Umps at the lower levels, but there is probably some validity to that argument. We've all been at games where Pitchers get squeezed, and I can say that I've seen it more at minor league games. When those guys come out and aren't aggressive in the zone early on, they rarely get calls as they get deeper into games.

Even so, that's an adjustment Ian (and Folty and Newk) simply has to make on his own - the Umps know how good your stuff is, and if you show them you're afraid to challenge hitters with that stuff there's no reason (in their minds) that they should start giving you calls even if you're consistently hitting your spots just off the plate. Don't wait until you get down 3-1 to throw it over the plate.

Love seeing zero walks from Anderson. The walks will likely determine whether he's a fringey starter or a number 2-3.

From twitter:

#Braves Bryse Wilson dealing on strength of explosive FB, 93-95 t6; lots of swing and miss up in the zone when it takes off. @2080ball

I'm surprised he isn't a consensus top 100 guy

For those that don't like it when I compared Anderson to a young Lucas Sims, would you be more comfortable with a Nick Pivetta comp?

Yes. The rest of us are painfully aware of that fact.

At least he gave one MLB win. Let's compare that to Braxton Davidson, Sean Gilmartin, Matt Lipka, Brett DeVall, Jon Gilmore, Steve Evarts ... all top picks (not necessarily first-round) since 2006.
