GDT 8/4 Braves (Gausman) @ Mets (Wheeler)

The Mets could turn this around quickly if they spend on the right position guys and cespedes comes back healthy. deGrom, Thor, and wheeler is legit base

Problem is they also have no bullpen, so they'd have to spend there too. Window isn't very long. Two more for deGrom and three for Syndegaard.

Wheeler looked better than I have ever seen him that inning, wow. He was blowing us away with 99 mph fastballs and had a good splitter, etc. Gausman will need to pitch a gem tonight I am afraid.

Wheeler FA after next year, DeGrom FA after 2 years, Thor FA after 3 years.

Their farm is pretty bad, best bet is to blow it up and rebuild, even with some added players, they're still behind Atl, Phi, and Was even if they lose Harper this winter next year.

If they are smart they rebuild. They have the two biggest trade chips in baseball. They are not smart.

Good start for Gausman, he topped out at 97 mph on that last ground out. Hopefully Wheeler losing some mph on his fastball as this game goes along.

Yep.

It was known that Wheeler was killing it lately and is finally looking like he's going to live up to what he could be, but he's gone after next year even if he keeps doing it and the two more established guys are either you sign them or are gone soon too.

I somewhat get waiting on DeGrom, a trade like that takes awhile to happen.

Not trading Wheeler was dumb given his value will be less this winter or he leaves for a QO after the 19 season.

Thor's value is too low to move him though.

Camargo cost us a run there, should've got the runner at third. If not for Camargo's error basically then Gausman gets out of that mess.

If I were running the Mets, I would spend the offseason trying to retool rather than tear it down.

They have the best rotation in baseball. They can still get a mint for anyone they want to sell at next year's deadline, though they probably should have moved Wheeler this year.

Cespedes is both a huge piece of their lineup puzzle and an albatross. I imagine it would be hard for them to move him, but I would be looking pretty hard to see if it was doable. Or maybe Jay Bruce. Bruce wouldn't be a terrible idea for the Braves in LF perhaps.

Didn't look like to me Camargo could outrun Frazier to the base and Dansby was late coming over to help.

Camargo didn't have time to go back, but if he doesn't hesitate I think Freeman can get Frazier at the plate. Just me.

That one run we gifted them may cost us tonight as Wheeler is dealing. He looks better than deGrom tonight.
