GDT 8-18-18 NIGHT OF THE FOLTYVILLE STOPPER

Melt down after a loss. Glad to see some things are consistent.

Good teams sometimes lose in the 9th. Good teams sometimes lose to other good teams.

Now step back from the ledge, take your meds, and realize the Braves are still in first place.

If Minter is out, the pen gets shorter.

This list of guys reliable enough for high leverage situations: Brach, Winkler, Biddle, Venters.

Luke Jackson is a flatter-to-deceive guy. Looks good enough on occasion to make Snit and others think there might be something there. But he is not to be relied upon. We may have to because the alternatives right now, Sobotka and Allard, are even less reliable.

There was lots of grumbling about Viz earlier this year. I'm sure the grumblers would be happy to have him back. There was even more grumbling about Sam Freeman. But it would be nice if he could replace one of Sobotka or Allard.

I also think the FO should seriously think about replacing Sobotka and Allard with Touki and Gohara. I know they want to use Touki now and then as a starter to give the guys in the rotation an extra day rest, but it seems to me he would be more valuable in the pen under current circumstances. Gohara was out for a bit with shoulder soreness but came back to pitch 3 and two-thirds strong innings on Thursday. If he came out of that feeling ok, he should be called up to replace Allard. We are short reliable relievers right now. It should be treated as an all-hands-on-deck situation by the FO.

I agree.

Minter says he has a small cut on the knuckle of his thumb. Did not affect any of his pitches according to him. Simply a bad outing. It would be a relief if that is the case. Doesn't change the case for replacing Allard with Gohara if Gohara is healthy. It does change the calculus some on whether Touki should be in the pen or providing occasional starts.

Thanks, but if we don’t win today, I’m gonna have to take a game off...I am something like 22-9 - well above .500, but in a three game slump.

Sobotka has looked good.
