Around the League: 2017 offseason edition / 2018 Season

hmm idk what to make of that. seems like it should've been a strike and an out.

The ump explained after the game that for it to be a bunt attempt, according to the rule book, the ball has to be 'intentionally met'. So he determined that because he was pulling the bat back, it was no longer an intentional bunt attempt and was therefore just a normal foul ball. Interesting call, but it's tough to argue according to the rule.

The much, much crazier part about that is that is a relief pitcher for the Reds....who has 4 HR in 22 AB this year. Batting a cool .273/.304/.818. He has 0.6 WAR pitching this year, pretty good for a RP...and 0.6 WAR batting this year. And that swing looks nice.

Yeah that was the historic part...as long as the Reds don't use him to start a game for the rest of the season he'll be the only player not to start a game and hit 4 homers in a season in the live ball era

ah ok, seems like he got it right then.

So, is Donaldson better off not playing, not getting traded and staying with the BJ's for the rest of the season, avoiding the QO altogether and signing best available in his mind in FA OR is he better off getting traded to a contender and risking a QO (assuming the trading team can and does make one)? I would guess the QO would be worth about $18M.

The Jays reportedly 1. Don't like him anymore and 2. Won't risk a QO in case he accepts, thereby blocking Vlad JR. If he and his agent know this, would he be better off on the FA market with no QO?

Pretty sure he wouldn’t qualify for the QO if traded midseason. So either way it’s unlikely to come into play, since it’s a very risky proposition for the Jays given the likelihood he accepts it.

Thanks

Couldn't remember and not where I can do a significant search

The Brewers have reached agreement on a trade with the Nationals to acquire lefty Gio Gonzalez, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (Twitter link). The return is not yet known.

And the Braves continue to sit on their hands as they struggle to put away the NL East. Can't wait to see who AA passes on trading for this offseason.
