Farewell To Three Great Players?

We already knew David Wright was saying goodbye today. Could have been the final games as well for Adrian Beltre and Joe Mauer. Beltre will be in Cooperstown. Injuries derailed the careers of Wright and Mauer.

Yeah, not even close.

I wouldn't say that. I doubt he would get in, but he was primarily a catcher through 2013 and accumulated ~45 WAR through that span, then about 5-10 more over the next 5 years.

The average HOF catcher produces about 50 WAR.

The MVP helps him.

I think Mauer has a really solid argument for Cooperstown as well. I think he makes it.

I think he will come up just short ala Dale Murphy. If he could have stayed at catcher, I think Mauer would have been a shoo-in given his numbers. He's an interesting guy. My brother taught at the high school Mauer attended and can attest to Mauer's "aw shucks" demeanor. Mild mannered and self-effacing as a guy can be, which really rankled some in the sporting press because he came across as being too stoic.
