Postseason Roster

Flowers Career splits: .759 OPS against lefties, .690 against righties
Flowers 2018 splits: 1.010 against lefites, .458 against righties

Suzuki career splits: .708 against lefties, .699 against righties
Suzuki 2018 splits: .822 against lefties, .761 against righties

Not too fussy about who Suzuki faces, but would try to get Flowers in against a lefty.

this is probably my biggest issue with the pitchers they're carrying. asking fried/touki/newk to do stuff they aren't really accustomed to.

As Enscheff's repeatedly mentioned, if this was the direction they wanted to go, they should have played the last week of the regular season deploying guys as such. Now you leave off Freeman or Winkler to have Newcomb and Toussaint suddenly tasked with high-leverage bullpen appearances.

I just think you have to overlook Winkler's weak September when weighed against the rest of his season, during which he was one of the Braves' top three relievers. For me, retaining Winkler to pitch in the role he's had all year is an easy decision when the alternative option they went with was carrying Newcomb—who's had as bad of a September, and a craptastic second half overall—to presumably employ him in a role (long relief) he hasn't been tasked with all year.

Its a tough call with Winkler because his velocity has been trending down as well.

I'm guessing Suzuki is in the lineup tonight and comes back in game 3 against Buehler. .915 OPS in September vs .637 for Flowers.

I thought Fried looked really good at the end of the season. He could be a key guy in this series.

Yea I don't have any argument against Fried's inclusion: he performed in a relief role and performed well. My beef is Newcomb over Freeman and Rivera over Winkler.

I really wish we had seen the Braves play 2-3 games as if they were NLDS games to get folks used to being used differently. I think teams are fooling themselves if they think pitchers can just suddenly jump into new roles seamlessly.

Maybe the BP guy won't be used differently than they were in the regular, so who knows.

My opinion is that Rivera was included to make it easier to PH with Suzuki/Flowers and/or double switch with them in the middle innings.

I'm taking Rivera's inclusion as a good sign the BP will be used in a more modern fashion, and we won't have to watch Folty face Pederson in the 5th inning for the 3rd time after throwing 80+ pitches.

It's a tougher call, for sure, but along those same lines I just think a nine-man pen adds more flexibility/leverageability than a third catcher. Either way, as multiple posters have suggested, the Braves need to aggressive pursue platoon advantages; so hopefully, one way or another, that's the intention behind their decisions.

Touki had the one really good relief appearance at the end where he struck out the side. I think Newcomb also helped his case that last week, including coming out of the pen to face three hitters the last day. He had his best velocity of the season in his last start. And it was even better in the relief appearance.

I wanted the 9 man pen too. But with three guys who can go multiple innings (Newk, Fried and Touki) the pen is going to give Snit some options in this series.

Its like the Braves are trying to create their own Andrew Millers in the postseason. Hopefully it works out.

Fried actually pitched pretty well in relief too this season after the walkoff HR to Gennett early in the season.

I'm still not on the end that Snitker has decided to fully cave into using the bullpen like you would modernly. He'll try to get more out of Folty, but with everyone else, I bet it's a case of which he's not going to let them lose the game with so many guys that can go multiple innings on the roster.

Folty will get the traditional treatment. But I hope Snit goes new age when the other guys start.

Anyone know if the game will be available on MLBtv without the extra provider login crap?

MLB Network is free from Oct. 3-10 for a ton of TV providers so you might want to check if you have it this week.

I have it at my house, was thinking about putting a little extra time in at work and keeping up with the game on my phone for a couple innings.
