If it's me I have Ender and Swanson 7 and 8. That's your 2 best defenders you put at the bottom of the lineup and you're happy with whatever production you get from them.

AA said in the press conference they're gonna give guys more days off. Ozzie said he wore down, late in the season. And Freddie played too much last year. Not ground breaking news but still.

I think that is HUGE news if they follow through. I'd love to see FF play 125-130 next year. I'd love to see us stand up to FF. He should want to play and fight to play. The manager and front office should tell him to relax and take off some games.

Ozzie is a young guy and small guy. Rest him on occasion.

Donaldson is injury prone. He should rest and get some defensive subs late.

Are we going to make Snit a good manager? Can Snit do all of the clubhouse stuff he is great at now and AA can manage the game via ear piece from the box?

i always had the feeling grandal was going to get more than the $13M being talked about. i think it will be more like $16-18. good catchers are rare commodities, and guys like grandal rarely become available.

also, as other have pointed out, i think AA was extremely reluctant to lose a draft pick.

Could be that. Could be AA doesn't want to pay Grandal for the same reason the Dodgers don't want to pay Grandal.

I've said, "look at what the Dodgers are doing and apply it to the Braves", over and over, and yet I failed to listen to my own statement. The fact the Dodgers were not going all out to resign Grandal should have been a clear signal AA wasn't going to give him huge money either.

Donaldson on a 1 year deal is a very Dodgeresque move (superstar upside with limited downside and plenty of backup plans), and I called it the moment AA was hired. I let the "set in the infield" smokescreens overrule my own logic...dumb.

Not to get totally off subject, but for now, I wouldn’t mind the lineup going Inciarte, Albies, Acuna, Freddie, JD, whoever we get for RF, Flowers/McCann and Dansby.

If the acquired cOF is so bad he bats 6th while Inciarte and his .320 OBP bats leadoff....AA failed.

Inciarte is a bottom of the order hitter. Anyone who still fails to grasp that simple fact is not paying attention.

130 isn't enough for Freddie. If he's healthy I think that getting him ~10 days off over the course of the season would be plenty. So I'd shoot for 145-150 games if you plan on resting him some.

One underrated aspect of this deal, is since it's a 1 year deal, Donaldson will go all out to prove himself so he can earn a multi year deal next year. Players seem to perform at their highest level in walk years.

We have been discussing whether or not the Braves would give up a pick to sign Grandal. Instead, they likely gained a pick by signing Mac/JD.

I think that pretty much answers the question about the Braves and signing QO FAs once and for all...at least for $50M-$100M FAs.

I'd try to have JD 4th, so Freddie has protection. But i could see Acuna/JD/Freddie.

As long as the Top 4 are some combination of JD, Freeman, Acuna, and the new cOF, it doesn't really matter the exact order.

Right now, I'm hoping someone like Brantley or Cutch is the answer and we can pencil in that high OBP in the lead off slot with JD, Freeman and Acuna behind him. That is a championship level top of a lineup for sure.

I'd prefer Freddie in the 140-145 range. 30-35+ days off is too much. 20 should be enough.

I'd prefer Brantley and go with Brantley/Acuna/Freddie/JD/Ozzie, thats a heck of a top 5.

Including McCann's $2m, that is $46m coming off the books right there alone.

As has been pointed out numerous times, "money coming off the books" is not the correct way to look at future payroll.

There are many built in raises for everyone else that will take up the bulk of the "money coming off the books".

Ding ding ding. I 100% agree with this.

Saying money coming off the books doesn't mean i'm saying that is what we have to spend. Of course you have arbitration/extensions/etc.

The reason I lean towards Cutch now is because he seems more durable than Brantley.

Also, there are plenty of LHH bench guys out there to compliment Cutch, and far fewer RHH bench guys out there.

Or AA does something completely unexpected and signs Marwin...who knows at this point.
