2018 Offseason And Targets

I feel like people always overvalue Yankee prospects for some reason. Frazier looks at least as likely to be a quad A player as a MLB regular to me. Why do people find him attractive enough that they would deal a FV55 pitcher for Frazier and a glass arm?

Frazier was highly thought of when he was an Indians prospect so it's not just the Yankee hype machine. Frazier is a risky proposition but he's also a potential buy low candidate. If he were to finally break out you'd have a 24 year old who is under control until he's 30.

I'm not sure I'd give up Gohara. I think that might be selling low on him. But I think there's a fit between the two teams.

I would be pretty happy with Markakis on a one year/team option and Frazier being brought in cheap. Something like Fried/Culberson for Gray/Frazier.

I’d never really considered adding both Frazier and Markakis, but that would create a pretty good 4 player OF mix of upside and steadiness.

I don’t understand the Reds point of view on this. They aren’t good and the NL central is pretty strong right now. Why trade a high end prospect for a catcher with 2 years left when they aren’t ready to compete? Makes no sense.

It's been fun to speculate, but I don't see the Realmuto trade going down.

I dont either, but no one saw Donaldson coming. AA works out of the blue, so who knows. But i would bet against it happening but i wont be mad if they get him pending what the price is.

I'm not sure i get the Reds interest in everyone now though, they're about 1-2 years away at least and are in a brutal division.

Some teams just do dumb things on a regular basis and wonder why they still suck

The Reds have no business being in the Realmuto market.

He's a finishing piece not a starter set.

The Reds are linked to JTR, as well as several starting pitchers....

Even if they add JTR/Keuchel/Gray/Kluber/MadBum/etc.....they are still not going to beat out the Cubs, Brewers, or Cardinals in their division....on top of that, they are not going to beat out the Braves/Mets/gNats/Phillies/Rockies for a WC spot

Not sure where I stand, but AA definitely has a history of ponying up for the guy he wants. If he's this high on JT, he'll pay it.

That being said, there are several really good options we can fallback on.

180 career PA. The last 40 of which at least, were strong.

It's unclear why people think he's washed out.

i don't necessarily think he's washed out. i would just prefer more certainty in the final OF spot. you have no idea what you're going to get from him. it could be really bad.

Ticket sales? Beats me lol.

But the Reds are linked to a LOT of big name players. JTR, Keuchel, Sonny, Kluber, amongst others.

Agree with the hesitation to trade Gohara. I mainly used him because there’s been smoke he is on the block and he’s the type of talent the Yankees turn into impact contributors. If I had the Yankees pitching development team at my disposal, the arms I would target from the Braves as buy low options would be Fried and Gohara. I think Fried is a plus sinker waiting to happen, and Gohara is a reasonable gamble to take on a potentially elite arm.

I don’t have Gray/Frazier as my favorite option. In fact, I’m not in favor of adding a SP at all unless it was something like the value the Yankees got in the Paxton deal for a truly elite impact pitcher. I think it’s foolish to spend any resources on a SP unless it’s a clear win in terms of value and impact. Thor is another example of a move I’d be in favor of if the value was good.

I’m saying that’s the move I’d bet on happening based on the resources the Braves have remaining and the apparent intent on adding a SP as well as an OF.

I saw Donaldson coming

Rather than getting him for 5 years, his recent injury history allowed the Braves to get him for a single year.

I knew Camargo was viewed as a utility guy, and I shouldn’t have let AA’s smokescreen change my opinion.
