Rays closing in with a deal for Morton per Marc Tompkin.
Great move. The Rays are a few pieces away from being really really fun. They'll give New York and Boston a run for their money, I'd bet.

Agree with the hesitation to trade Gohara. I mainly used him because there’s been smoke he is on the block and he’s the type of talent the Yankees turn into impact contributors. If I had the Yankees pitching development team at my disposal, the arms I would target from the Braves as buy low options would be Fried and Gohara. I think Fried is a plus sinker waiting to happen, and Gohara is a reasonable gamble to take on a potentially elite arm.
I don’t have Gray/Frazier as my favorite option. In fact, I’m not in favor of adding a SP at all unless it was something like the value the Yankees got in the Paxton deal for a truly elite impact pitcher. I think it’s foolish to spend any resources on a SP unless it’s a clear win in terms of value and impact. Thor is another example of a move I’d be in favor of if the value was good.
I’m saying that’s the move I’d bet on happening based on the resources the Braves have remaining and the apparent intent on adding a SP as well as an OF.

Rays are among teams to circle back on Realmuto. They have the young players to make it work if want. Zunino acquired a few weeks back, so interesting.
Realmuto would be a really really good addition to the Rays. It may put them over the top, actually.
If we can move Teheran as part of a deal to get an outfielder on a low salary, we would have room to add Happ.
For example Teheran plus Fried to the Twins for Kepler.
Sign Happ (2 year deal with vesting third year is probably what it would take...AAV of about 16M)
Sign Anibal one-year deal at 5M
The salaries of Happ, Anibal and Kepler would be about 23M
We save 11M by moving Teheran, so the net addition is 12M. Leaves us some funds to get a reliever.
Our rotation is Folty, Happ, Newk, Suarez and one of Touki, Soroka and Gohara. We have a good group of near-major league ready starters in AAA (Wright, Wilson, Allard in addition to two of the ones competing for the final spot in the rotation).
Correct...as far as the AL goes this year, you'd imagine that the Red Sox win the east, Indians win the central, and the Astros win the West.
From there you have basically a 3 team race between the Yankees, Rays, and A's as WC options. The A's are suspect as far as repeating what they did last season. There is a real good chance that the east has 3 playoff teams next season
Last year Kepler had an improved BB rate, lower K rate, much improved defense and registered his lowest BABIP of his career. Also being from Germany he hasn't played nearly as much baseball as baseball rat kids in the US or in Central American countries where kids play year round. You could make the case that he could be a late bloomer in that regard as well. Although, I don't give that thesis as much weight as the improved peripherals.
I think he could have a breakout year.
I saw Donaldson coming

Rather than getting him for 5 years, his recent injury history allowed the Braves to get him for a single year.
I knew Camargo was viewed as a utility guy, and I shouldn’t have let AA’s smokescreen change my opinion.
Love it! Morosi is gushing over Atlanta.
