What $500K and a good physical get you ...

Director of Minor League Reports
Former superstar Troy Tuloiwitzki, released Tuesday by Toronto despite still being owed $38 million.

He missed all of 2018 after having successful (or so it was reported) surgery to remove bone spurs on both heels. He missed parts of earlier seasons due to a hamstring injury and an ankle sprain.

He is under contract for two more seasons, with Toronto footing the bill. All any MLB club would have to do is pay him the minimum, $500,000.

He is now 34 years old and has been a five-time all-star. He has never played any position other than shortstop; could he adjust to LF?

Don't think he would do well in LF with all of his lower half injuries (hamstring, ankle, bone spurs in both feet), but if we moved Swanson or Albies (doubt we do), then signing him for a look at 2B could make some level of sense...

It would be an AA love fest thing (like the Bautista/Donaldson signings), but for $500k it couldn't hurt. He has said he is willing to move positions from what they are saying on XM

And the rumors (right or wrong, who knows?) are that the reason the Jays released him is that he was still set in his belief that he should be looked at as an everyday SS.

No interest at all - at least Duvall keeps his mouth shut when he's not performing well enough to deserve to play. If someone else is crazy enough to pick him up and save Toronto some pocket-change, let them - the chances of him even being a productive half of a LF platoon are slim and none, and getting him to do so without whining are probably even smaller. If he had anything left and wouldn't cause problems in the clubhouse, they wouldn't have released him - it's not like they're going to contend for anything.

I think he's going to a team where he can be a PH specialist.

I mean upside on him, when healthy the guy is a stud. We're talking about a guy who routinely was a 5+ rWAR player.

THe rub is injuries have always been an issue with him. Only 3 seasons of his career have 140 games or more, only 6 have topped 500 PA. Of course of those 6 seasons, his worst rWAR season was a 3.4. So basically when he's been healthy he's been good. Just being healthy hasn't come easy for him.

I'd take him on the bench and maybe consider playing him at 2B if he can stay healthy on the bench. I don't want to move Albies to LF and then have Tulo get hurt immediately.

If Camargo is the everyday guy in LF, that means AA failed this off season.

I don’t know that’s necessarily true. I remember Prado putting up some real nice WAR numbers in left field and don’t see why Camargo can’t do the same. You’d need to replace Camargo with another super sub but getting Tulo and spending the rest of the money on pitching wouldn’t be a terrible way to go.

I wouldn't say failed. Camargo is a starting caliber player after all and Donaldson/Camargo should produce more WAR than Camargo/Markakis did. But I'd agree that it would certainly be disappointing if we didn't acquire a legit corner OF.

It puts the team back in the spot of having a **** bench and not being able to rest people like they want. I buy Camargo as the super sub that gets a ton of ABs. He won't be starting in LF.
