2018 Offseason And Targets

I preface this by saying I don’t think Harper will land in Atlanta. However, until he signs, I wouldn’t dismiss the possibility or openly mock those who talk about the chances, ever so slight that it may be, of him signing with the Braves. We’ve been surprised over the years what these free agents do. I remember almost going on the shoulder of I-20 in Louisiana driving home when I heard Barry Zito’s contract. I personally believe he’s going to LA. But until he puts pen to paper, it’s anyone’s guess. After all, how many thought Alex Rodriguez would sign with Texas in 2000? Not many I recall.

Just saying

Why would Frenchy say this if it wasn’t true? And, why would he say it if it is true and they are wanting to stay quiet about it? Maybe they want it leaked?

There's way too many potential corner OF'ers available to settle for Markakis.

Braves have at least the following SP'ers who will be MLB ready by the end of the season next year: Newk, Julio, Gaus, Folty, Soroka, Touki, Fried, Gohara, Wright, Wiegel, Wilson, Allard. I'm not saying completely gut the farm and make 3 big trades. But they have MORE than enough surplus of SP's to make a trade. There's no excuse to settle for Markakis.

I'd still call back to Seattle and see what they want for Haniger, just think he makes too much sense.

I think AA might have learned to keep some of the ones he doesnt wanna give up but you cant keep em all when you're trying to contend.

I hope every Braves fan agrees with you. Haniger is a perfect get for Atlanta.

Putting aside the total dollar amount for a minute, what's everyone's thoughts on the contract length that Harper and Machado will get? After watching teams get burned by the Pujols and ARod deals, I just find it unlikely that anyone is going to get a 10 year deal anymore. I realize those two are younger than Pujols and ARod when they got their mega deals, but still. My guess is that they'll get shorter, high AAV ones

We should definitely get players who are below average offensively from the team that sucks because that’s the best use of limited prospect resources.

Why not trade for someone who is actually above average at the plate for the second most offensive minded position on the field?

I think you misunderstood - I'm not big on Kepler personally (though I do see their point).

The reasons they'd trade ANYBODY is that the Twins suck, have OF options (including Kirilloff and Rooker who aren't that far away), and are desperately in need of pitching.
