Why don’t we wait to see if the person actually gets in any legal trouble before declaring that. I think it would be pretty bad if she did, but I sincerely doubt it happens.

For what it’s worth, there are situations where it can be genuinely insensitive to do this. Not so much at a coffee shop, but I’ve been around others who refuse to actually learn how to pronounce the name of a peer, insisting instead on calling them some obviously wrong name in the spirit of a joke. More often than not, I’ve found that behavior to play out more with the names of people of color.

My girlfriend worked in a restaurant where the front of the house crew called all the kitchen (all hispanic) Pablo. There's a difference between an honest mistake and being a giant dick.
