Around The Majors 2019

I don’t think the issue is binary—whether to be concerned or not—but how concerned to be. I am, for instance, not yet concerned enough that I think the Braves should surrender the requisite draft pool money, plus ~$15-million-plus in 2019 payroll, to sign a 30-year-old reliever who missed spring training (or any similarly drastic moves).

There were plenty of other options - who cost neither that kind of money OR a draft pick - available just about all winter.

I don't think most people who are still worried about the pen are resigned to only signing Kimbrel. Brach signed with the Cubs for $3 million. Diekman signed with the Royals for $2.75 million, Holland signed with the D-Backs for $3.25 million, Blake Parker signed with the Twins for $1.8 million, Norris signed a minor league deal, Adam Warren signed with the Padres for $2.5 million. AA could've even "splurged" on Herrera or Soria and spent less than $10 million per.

I'd argue all of those would be better options than Luke Jackson or Josh Tomlin AND they would've meant that you wouldn't need to use Venters or Sobotka in high-leverage situations.

He easily won that toss up

Monetarily, maybe. Or maybe not.

One year of instruction under the tutelage of Dave Van Horn would've removed the inconsistencies that have plagued his career. Who knows how much he could've earned with a little more consistency, and without the precipitous fall?

The only area in which it would've hurt Davis is in catching foul balls down the first base line.

He’s going to make 161 million. I don’t think he’s sweating the decision too much.

At this point they just need to Gillooly Chris Davis and collect the insurance money.

Maybe there is some kind of perverse attraction to seeing someone that bad at baseball. Maybe it will draw more fans to leave him out there?

We've had some truly horrid players: Sucky Upton, Uggla, Flaherty, Norton... But Davis makes them all look like Mike Trout in comparison. I mean he's been worse than Corky Miller was with us, and Corky Miller might just be the worst hitter I've ever seen since I started watching baseball.

Yeah a #1 pick is a good reason to keep running the 160 million dollar man out there
