5/14 GDT vs Cards

Pen currently consists of:

Righties: Jackson, Webb, Winkler, Parsons, Tomlin

Lefties: Newk, Venters, Biddle

This Cards lineup is strongly right handed. With the significant exception of Matt Carpenter. He is hitting lefties better this year but that's misleading. He has pretty pronounced conventional splits for his career. Their other lefty is Kolten Wong, who has pronounced conventional splits. Dexter Fowler is a switch hitter who for his career hits lefties slightly better. The best matchup against a switch hitter is a pitcher with reverse splits. Biddle would be our man.

Braves batters xwOBA vs RHP in 2019 (min 50 PAs):

Brian McCann 0.403
Nick Markakis 0.396
Freddie Freeman 0.395
Ronald Acuna Jr. 0.385
Tyler Flowers 0.377
Josh Donaldson 0.377
Dansby Swanson 0.359
Ozzie Albies 0.325
Johan Camargo 0.272
Ender Inciarte 0.259

We are at the point in the season where this data should be informing the lineup.

Markakis batting 5th vs a RHP is a bad move, as is Albies hitting in front of Mac.

The lineup vs RHP should be:

Markakis
Acuna
Freeman
Donaldson
Mac
Swanson
Albies
Ender

Markakis

Donalson

Swanson
Albies
Ender

it works out nicely that the optimal lineup also ends up being mostly LRLR

Gawd that lineup is pretty.

Seems pretty crazy that Luke Jackson is currently the Braves closer.

Jackson has been a statcast darling for 2-3 years now, so it's not totally surprising. The data on his pitches and the fact he is still cheap is why he kept getting chances to dial in his control despite relatively poor results.

Not as much data, but Braves xwOBA vs LHP in 2019 (min 25 PAs):

Freddie Freeman 0.493
Ronald Acuna Jr. 0.457
Dansby Swanson 0.418
Josh Donaldson 0.370
Ozzie Albies 0.350
Ender Inciarte 0.324
Nick Markakis 0.305
Johan Camargo 0.294
Tyler Flowers 0.168

Understanding Freeman is cemented in the 3 hole, and Mac will not see many PAs vs LHP, the lineup vs LHP should be:

Swanson/Albies
Acuna
Freeman
Donaldson
Albies/Swanson
Markakis
Flowers
Inciarte/Camargo

Culberson probably needs to get some more time vs LHP, or another RHH OF acquired, if Camargo continues to struggle.

This notion that the Braves are 3-0 due to moving Acuna to lead off is absurd...

Full season Runs/G: 4.8
Last 3 Games Runs/G: 4.3

The Braves have scored fewer runs over the last 3 games than their season average, and yet somehow the narrative is that the new lineup has jump started the club.

This type of stupidity is truly mind boggling.

maybe our run prevention improves with Acuna batting leadoff

JD is 0 for his last 2. That tiny sample is getting bigger.

He should probably sit for a game since he's cold now.
