DOB: Braves offseason about to get a lot busier. - Gamel released.

I don't know the Dodgers could be an interesting case study. If LA offered Matt Kemp with his contract paid the Rays have to at least listen right?

The Dodgers minor league system is extrememly weak. they have like three guys who are decent prospects and after that just a bunch of minor league fodder but realistically what is the most the Rays expect to get? If they think their going to fleece another team like the royals for an up and coming all-star position player I seriously doubt it. Price's value will be highest at dead line when some GM thinks that Price will put them over the top. I really don't see how/who will give them a big return and I'm not saying price isn't worth it but most teams know it's best to hold on to their young stars instead of losing them and risking losing a guy like Price after the year is up and be SOL entirely.

Dodgers have several no. 1 PICKs who are waiting their turn, but they are not hurting.

Excluding Puig, only Urias,Pederson,Seager, and Scavuzzo have put up decent numbers in the minors. While the others may have potential they haven't shown anything in the minor leagues. I mean is Seager,Pederson, and Scavuzzo better than Alex Wood, Bethancourt, and Kyle Wren? Seager is a nice prospect but he's getting owned in the AFL but he is pretty young as he doesn't turn 20 for another 5 months. Pederson is a really good looking prospect who has shown a ton of power and and a knack for getting on base and he's the closest to being major league ready.

I'm sure every club could put the prospects together to make a trade for Price. The Dodgers would no doubt have to come off Pederson but with the way they are doing things I think it's quite possible they become the Yankees and trade off every prospect they ever get and just sign free-agents. Honestly while I like price I wouldn't trade a bunch of our prospects for a guy I know we won't re-sign but the Dodgers are a team that can re-sign him which would make the risk not so risky.

A lot of minor league evaulators think Seager is going to be an absolute stud.

Oh I don't doubt it. Looking at his numbers and youth there's a lot to like. I do think he winds up at 3B as he's already 6'4 215 and like I said Pederson is a guy who will be vying for PT next year and had a very very good year at AA. Pederson hit only .277 but the power/speed/on base is very exciting and has future All-Star written all over him. If I'm the Dodgers I wouldn't part with these guys but if Price is healthy it's kind of hard to think LA wouldn't be the clear cut favorite to win the WS. I mean Kershaw,Price and Greinke in a play-off format isn't fair. Pederson and Seager are guys who aren't proven like Price but their potential is extremely high but as I stated earlier the Dodgers can re-sign Price while we wouldn't be able to so it may be worth it to them. IMO, I don't think acquiring Price makes us WS contenders with the inconsistency we have on offense.

If I were the Dodgers or Yankees I would definitely go after someone like Price. Give up whatever prospects the Rays want. Sign him to a long-term contract.

For the Braves or any other mid-market team, it doesn't make sense. We have to rely more on homegrown talent. Maximize the value derived from the pre-free agency years.

That list isn't all that impressive.

In the "NO DUH" news section, Tim Dierkes of mlbtraderumors says the Braves are going to make a qualifying offer to Mac. This is not news to anyone here.

Why wouldn't we pick up the option on Reed? Even during an off-year filled with injuries he was one of the best pinch-hitters out there - .289 .386 .395 .781 - Only one pinch-hitter had better stats with the same amount or more at-bats.

Reed isnt bad to pickup his option, pretty good vs lefties, and off the bench.

Pena, Laird, Reed, Schafer, Terdo bench for next year?

No surprise at all on the Mac QO.

I see no reason to carry Schafer if Reed's option is picked up. I would much rather see a legit LHed bat with some pop for the bench like Chavez.
