2019 MLB Draft Thread

Brown on Langliers: “Plus plus arm, plus plus defense, high I.Q., big-time makeup, high energy type player. Just a good package for the franchise. We think with this pick we can potentially solve the catching position.”

Why do ppl think his ceiling is so low? Guy had a bad soph year and a major injury. Still has a career 370 obp and slugs over 500. In a good conference.

I think he’s a better hitter than bishop. Bishop has more tools but he’s done all his damage against bad competition. Friday and Saturday starters dominated him.

At least this is rational. I didn't want him....but I didn't hate him. Gotta hope we get an upside hs pitcher at 21. Malone? Espino? Don't see Carroll falling to us...is there a chance?

Nah, most mocks have him going to the DBags.

I’m not a scout, or even that well-versed in the amateur ranks, but the fact the Braves went low-upside with this high of a pick is disappointing. He’s as old or older than a third of the Braves lineup right now—or four-ninths, if Soroka is pitching.

yeah, i’m not, like, thrilled based on that. maybe they have a plan tho. pretending it was a massive mistake as if i know that right now tho.

Contreras wont be ready until 2 years at the very least. Shea could be ready by 2020, his defense is MLB ready now.

Yeah they were saying on MLB Network that he could come in and play today - he's that good defensively. Also said he threw out like 56% of baserunners this past season.

I have not heard of anyone taken in this draft, so far be it from me to criticize the selection. I like that 1) we finally took a not-pitcher and 2) that we took a position that we're pretty thin at. I ultimately think Contreras is our guy, but having catching depth is definitely a good thing, and McFlow are pretty long in the tooth

I would have gone elsewhere too, but worst case he's an elite defensive catcher.

If the bat ever catches up to his defense, he's a perennial 4-5 WAR player.

Pump the brakes. Bethacourt was ticketed as the best defensive in the minors and we saw how that turned out.

Not to mention, aside from framing, defense for catchers is super overrated. And we have next to zero data on how good his framing actually is.

Wasn't that because of his arm? Thinking on catcher defense has evolved a lot since then.

Framing is the most important though.
