2019 MLB Draft Thread

The only problem I have with this scenario is I always live by the adage "Never fall in love with a player to the extent it's going to screw things up." Shewmate wasn't going to fall to #60, but if they had someone higher on their list than Shewmate that they passed on because another team was going to take Shewmate, that's just not a good way to do business.

we have no indication that's the case tho. seems like he was likely, plainly, their guy.

True enough. It surely seems that way.

I don’t quite understand why, but that’s neither here nor there.

My big concern with Shewmake is that he did not improve offensively while at TAMU. Sort of suggests a lack of upside, but I guess his scrawny frame is the hope.

I probably should've clarified, but that podcast was done before day three started. So it's very possible that their opinions could change if they sign those round 11-19 guys.

Oh, that essentially changes everything. The Braves didn’t really go to either extreme through Day 2, so at that point it was unclear that they were going to go so prep-heavy on Day 3. Without that information, this draft seems quite different.

if he was apparently also a guy the Rays were targeting, I feel pretty good. we'll never know if that's the case of course.

Klaw was on the bbtn podcast today. He highlighted Atlanta as a successful draft.

Apparently they did work on a strategy of saving money early and signing high upside guys on Day 3. It will be very interesting to see who actually signs.
