And when they do the tariffs will crush them. The people of mexico will not stand for lower exonomic performace based on Mexico unwilling to do anything about central american migration.

But i understand youre hoping it doesnt work as it invalidates your world view.

There won't be anymore tariffs because the US won't have a way to really monitor that. Realizing it's a political ruse =/= hoping it doesn't work. Though I doubt, even if Mexico kept their promise, that it would affect much of anything regardless.

I guess one thing that’s worth asking about the Mexico/tariff question is if the economic turmoil and uncertainty caused by the threat of tariffs is justified by the benefit that we receive from a putative deal on migrants which is arguably mostly a political fig leaf.

Even the NPR polling recently showed how out of touch the left is on the genocide, er I mean, abortion issue.
