You're right. If that pitch was a strike, then the one before it was too. I think both were balls, but they're as close to the top as Nola's getting east-west.

We can check the ball/strike scatter tomorrow, and like always, it probably won’t reveal any ump bias.

Newk has thrown 23 of 40 pitches for strikes, got a couple strikes on bad swings that last inning, and was given the last 2 outs of that inning.

Consistently gets ahead of guys, but then throws easy takes until the count is full. It’s maddening

It all gets set up by his fastball. The change is a “show me” pitch. The curve isn’t effective if guys don’t respect his fastball. Gotta command the fastball.
