Around The Majors 2019

Remember in March at the end of spring training when the Braves were the 4th place team in the division because AA only spent 30 million on FA’s, and didn’t trade away any prospects? Now every team except the Braves are a dumpster fire.

The Gnats, Mets and Phillies all have long term problems. I just hope they all three put off rebuilding for several years.

There is something to be said about pursuing value and not compromising on that philosophy. I think its put us in a position that is FAR more stable than any of our NL East counterparts.

If this year has illustrated anything, its that we don't have to spend 20 million a year or trade away the farm for a "ToR" guy in order to be successful.

Does anyone else think that the playoffs should maybe be expanded to 6 teams per league? Either do 3 wild cards or create 4 divisions to do it. Give the top two teams a bye and the four teams below them play in a 3 or 5 game series to move on.

The only reason I say this is that currently there is only one division that is really competitive (within 4-5 games of each other) and I would guess that a lot of fanbases have already started to check out. If we added an extra playoff spot it could possibly keep fans engaged a little longer since they have a little more hope at a WC birth.

Martinez is on the hot seat too.

I always get a big-time chuckle when the heir-apparent to ultimate baseball genius doesn't quite turn out that way. I have always thought Maddon to be overrated, which made me believe that Martinez was overrated. I frankly don't know how much managers really matter in the big scheme of things as long as their handwriting on the line-up card is legible (and they are relatively sane), but the buzz around Martinez when he got the Nationals' job had the press thinking he could turn Boone's Farm into Dom Perignon.

Two divisions and 4 WC teams. That will never happen but I could see 4 divisions and 2 wc teams once mlb expands again.

This is probably inevitable, just a matter of when.

In the meantime, I would like to see the 1 game WC game done away with in favor of something a little longer. There are several good proposals out there, from a traditional 3 game series, to a doubleheader in one city and a single game in the other city, to a double header in the top seeded team's city where the lower seeded team has to sweep to advance. I don't really care which improvement they make, but the single WC game is not great for anything other than hype.
