SATURDAY MINORS FINAL 7/6/19; Mississippi on the skids despite Wentz effort

Even though Gwinnett was no-hit Friday, Mississippi is the team with a real power outage. Since June 27th, the M-Braves have been shut out four times despite the 1-2 punch of Pache and Waters atop the lineup. They are currently on a seven-game losing streak, and it's despite outstanding pitching. Their last win was Ian Anderson's 2-0 win on June 26, and two of the shutout losses are 1-0. But in the game they scored 13 runs, they blew a six-run lead in the last two innings and lost 14-13.

I admittedly haven’t paid that much attention to the minors this season but what is the story on Gohara? Is he still battling the same injury from the spring?

Apparently. Updates have been thin on the ground. Last I heard was DOB saying it's another lost year.

Wentz may be getting into a groove his two starts before today were 11.2 IP with 17k's.

Now today he is through 3 scoreless with 5k's.

Still real young.

Finished the day 7IP 10k's 2BB's and just 4 hits.

I'd say he is starting to figure it out.

Guys who have yet to have had less than 25IP in the majors that could factor into the starting rotation in 2020:

Wright
Wilson
Weigel
Anderson
Muller
Wentz
Davidson

It is absolutely absurd just how much pitching depth is still on the farm.

Better not trade any of them.

Problem is we dont have the luxury to let them learn in the majors anymore. I think most on that list are going to end up relievers, but that's okay.

I've been wondering if our new on the job training is in the bullpen. Nuke and Touki may end up staying in the pen, but it wouldn't surprise me if one or both were starters next year... for us or someone else.

Fair enough, But I expect VV to be in the serious mix come spring. Prolly get the call late next summer I’d guess...

With Wilson in Atlanta, Wentz is my favorite of the Braves minor league pitchers. I think he's vastly underrated.
