2019 Trade Deadline Thread:

KC being unwilling to eat cash to sell high on Kennedy is precisely what makes them a bottom tier FO. They should be converting all present resources into future wins, and that includes present day cash. This may be their only chance to turn an albatross contract into non-zero future value, and they are poised to blow that chance.

They are trying to build a team around a 30 year old position prospect...they are terrible.

Bull****. Both chip and frenchy told me they were an all star FO and heroes back in KC. We should model them.

Here's Longenhagen's answer to Ian Anderson's results despite the low spin rate on the curveball:

"It's spin efficient. He has an over the top slot so all that tumble is occurring straight down and the pitch has workable movement despite lackluster raw spin. Same for MacKenzie Gore."

My base question about spin rate is whether it's especially useful in its own right or whether it's a secondary measure that stands in for things like movement or rise? Does it give us anything more than simply charting how much to expect pitches to move and maybe giving you an idea of when a pitcher is not at his own baseline? The second meaning a change in spin rate for a particular player could suggest injury or a loss of mechanics.

Still think Merrifield/Soto are reasonable targets for Atlanta if KC is reasonable.

I'm a little concerned about the OF at the moment too.

We're being stupid right now about how we are distributing playing time in the outfield. I'd rather go with the easy and cheap internal fix of doing a better job distributing playing time.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com: The Royals could be getting closer to trading Jake Diekman, according to a source. The Dodgers and Braves are believed to be two clubs showing serious interest in the lefty reliever.

For Thor I would bid aggressively. Give the Mets the choice of any two of Anderson, Fried, Riley, Muller, Wilson, Wright. Plus a lesser third piece. But I think the Twins will top what we're willing to do.

I would NOT offer them Pache or Waters.

Diekman looked great against us. Not that 2 innings should be given undue weight. But we had a chance to scout him.

I think a RH bat that is currently performing in MLB vs LHP still makes sense. I think getting one cheaply is the primary concern, but I think there is another year on Soto. He makes sense. So does someone like Hunter Renfroe. At a small price.

Merrifield is a pretty versatile, high-end player. he makes sense as a big piece, but only if his value is discounted to account for decline. I think it's unlikely the Royals and Braves would match up on him.

That NY post article mentions that the Mets want a big league starter now even if it is a #3 or #4, then a few top prospects

Would a deal like this get it done..?

Braves get Thor and Diaz
Mets get Teheran, Anderson, Wright, Allard

prob not.

Close, but I think we would get outbid...I think being willing to part with Fried might be key to getting Thor

when you say Soto, do you mean Soler?
moved off the position that Markakis doesn't have to be sat vs. lefties?

Maybe we can sell them on Newk, if we acquire Diekman.

Come postseason time fried can slide into the Andrew Miller/opener role.

Soroka/Keuchel/Thor/Gausman looks very good.

I dont think other teams view Fried and Newk as interchangeable. Fried has more value.

This is the Mutts so there may be a chance though.

"Look Brodie, you see this guy Newcomb. He's a big deal. We traded the most valuable shortstop in the league at the time for him pretty much straight up."

"This Fried dude? He was a throw-in when we were just trying to get rid of BJ Upton."
