GDT 7/26- Soroka vs. the fightin' bone spurs......

It occurs to me that a Joyce/Duvall platoon could actually be more productive than Muk full-time in right.

Could be, but I'll have to see it to believe it. Markakis has really slowed down after a fairly productive start to the season. Joyce has had a decent career, but I wonder if extended time will expose his weaknesses. Duvall is a complete mystery to me. I have no idea what to expect.

Over under on how many lineup cards Snit uses tonight before he can fill one out without Neck in the 5 hole?
I’ll go 3

the clubhouse attendant will have to put in overtime to clean up all the shredded pieces of paper in the visiting manager's office

I'm expecting Mac to bat 5th...which will add to the enormous burden on his shoulders

bizarre 2019 stat...Joyce with slightly higher fWAR than Muk

I will be surprised if it's not more productive. Defense will improve and Duval should hit lefties much better. It just thins out the depth and pinch hitting options a bit, but Snitker doesn't like depth anyway.

AA has to put OF on his list

Don't think it's the biggest priority right now.

I think it's

1) Late Innings Reliever
2) Rotation Help
3) OF

I will say, I would be very inclined to let Sobotka try to close games. He's that good right now.

Neck has put up 0.4 fWAR in 104 games. As stated above by a few people. I'd be shocked if Joyce/Duvall can't do better than that. Neck is a well below average player right now.

Yeah, would have to be a rental OF right? Wonder who fits that that would be an upgrade. I think we're all rooting for a Acuna/Pache/Waters(or Riley) OF by the end of next season (tho that might be a bit early), so can't imagine we'd go for anything else

The pen has become a bigger area of concern with injuries to Webb and Dayton and ineffectiveness from Minter. Plus Swarzak will regress. Doesn't mean we wont upgrade other areas but I would be shocked if AA did not address the pen.

Have to think Folty could be effective in pen like Newk, should we get someone like Thor.

Duvall's in the lineup batting 6th today. Acuna's in RF. Snitker just doesn't believe in platoons I guess.

Folty is like Duvall. The unused spare for the rotation. It seems like a waste until you need that spare. The chances the rotation will need that spare before the season is over are well over 50%.

It’s not really his fault though. That .841 OPS (.379 OBP) vs RHP could make him a very useful part time player. Limit his exposure to LHP and get him out for a defensive sub as the situation warrants, and he could be a nice value player for what he’s being paid.

I don't doubt it, but I wonder how much Joyce's defense, or lack thereof, will chip into his WAR with extended playing time. Maybe not. It is what it is and we'll have to roll the dice. Maybe Duvall comes back and plays well, but I just have a problem figuring out why he wasn't here sooner if they truly thought he could contribute, especially with Riley's falling off.
