BIG if true: Thor + Diaz potentially for Anderson, Wright, and 2 prospects?

Wouldnt move Ender until Pache gets to the show. He's the only guy we have who can play CF other than Acuna. Take out Ender/Julio and give in TD/Gausman or Folty if they want ready pieces over prospects.

Maybe the Mets could throw in Lagares. Pretty sure he's a FA to be.

Or Atlanta could pick up a CF elsewhere.

I pooh poohed on Pache coming up a few weeks ago and I still don't think it's a great idea, but I guess if you were able to add such big pieces with significant remaining control, you might just do what you have to do to make it work this year.

This is a silly hypothetical, I think. I don't think my proposal is realistic.

Let’s just go nuts... Thor Wheeler and Diaz... Merrifield.... and Giles

Probably wouldn’t have a farm left but if we could do that and keep Pache, id give up almost any combination of any other prospects. But lots of control left on the guys we would be getting

Teheran, Inciarte, Riley, Wright, Wilson. Thor + Diaz.

Done and done.

Eh, that's quite a bit of big league depth we're giving up. I'm not necessarily opposed to the overall value, but that is 5 guys from our 40 man with 3 of them on our current 25 man roster. In the midst of a playoff chase, it seems unwise to part with that much depth. Rather give up prospects.

We start with the Nats tonight so if we lose the first 2 games I’d suspect that adds a little pressure to the deadline

But that isn't anything that gives that opinion any special value. He said AA didn't believe in untouchable players. Is there a quote on that? Seems like a baseless assumption.

It doesn't have to be backed up by anything. He was just telling me that AA was quick to pull the trigger on a trade if he thought it made his team better. And judging AA's comments with Jeff and Chip the other night I think he warned us that if something big came together he would do it again.

AA hasn’t said that Anderson is off limits but I’m sure it would have to be a stud to trade him. If we were offering Anderson in a package for Thor it would have been done already imo.

I think the Mets want a lot more than Anderson for Thor and I think that's probably more likely the hang up if the Braves have even engaged on him. I kind of doubt that they've been very serious about it.

Some guy on WFAN was talking about who the Mets might trade with and made the observation they are really impressed with two farm systems: us and the Padres. It does sound like they have pretty significant reluctance to make a deal with the Yankees or a NL East team. So we would probably have to overpay to overcome that reluctance.

I just think it's odd that they think they could engage the Padres at this moment in time.

In some respects, Thor is a class of commodity that is rarely available at cost controlled levels. Preller has shown a willingness to go after assets whether he's contending or not, but it's generally throwing around money like an idiot. That has not extended to his prospect pool generally speaking. Hard to see Preller feeling like he's over a barrel to overpay for Thor at the deadline of a season where he is not in the race.

But Preller is weird.

Definitely a team on the upswing. Still they should take care. Just like we need to take care. Dumb trades can shorten the window of contention by quite a bit.

Cough Cubs trading Gleyber, Cease, and Eloy.

The Padres are gonna be good they just need to hold sted fast and wait another year.

Thor is under control for 2 years after this one, it wouldnt be just about this year.

But i dont think he gets moved anyway.

Pitchers are bought for now, not next year, and certainly not for multiple years later. At least not by competent FOs.

That's why everyone is dumbfounded by the Mets' acquisition of Stroman, though the price they paid makes it pretty hard to be critical of the deal from their end.

As good as the Cubs did opening their window of contention, they closed it by making moves that were just as poor.

That WS flag is going to fly forever though, so it's hard to criticize them too harshly I guess.

I don’t think they will be a playoff team next year either but they’ll be close so why trade assets for a 2 year rental when you aren’t a playoff caliber team yet?
