Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland Athletics, new stadiums, and expansion discussion

What are the rules regarding the expansion draft and how many players we can protect? Obviously if we can we need to protect Freeman, Albies, Acuna, Camargo, Folty, Newcomb, and a few others. I don't recall how it went down in '98.

Edit: Just looked it up. We wouldn't have any serious issues. We could protect 15 players from our 40 man and most of our top prospects would be protected. Plus we could add 3 players to our protected list after every round.

I’d have to look it up myself. Can’t remember either

I wonder how the 4-team divisions would change for Atlanta.

If Montreal were to come back, I could easily see Montreal, Mets, Philadelphia, and Washington in a division together.

That would leave Atlanta and Miami. Would Tampa move to the NL or would the Braves then be in a division with Miami, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh? Charlotte (if selected could play a factor here as well.

The Angels have opted out of their lease for their current stadium in Anaheim. They’ll play for sure at the “Big A” next year, but they’ll start searching it appears for a new home in SoCal.

Raleigh wants an MLB team to represent The Triangle. I’m not sure that will work you have part of Virginia that is Braves fans and the other part(s) Nationals and/or Orioles fans not to mention Braves Country isn’t going to support another team. Maybe if Raleigh gets a team in the American League it will work. The whole idea really doesn’t make much sense from a geographical standpoint.

I think there needs to be at least another team in the South. I think Manfred and most of the owners, if not all, agree.

Whether that is Charlotte, Nashville, The Triangle, or some combination is anyone's guess at this point.

I would like a team in Montreal and a team in the American South. Move the Athletics to Vegas and Rays to Portland.

I hope the Braves fight any attempt at expansion into the south with the same tenacity they used to avoid upgrading the outfield this year.

Anything that cuts into potential revenues for the Braves should be avoided at all costs.

That made me laugh.

I don't really see the South being a particularly good target for expansion just yet. Give it another generation perhaps.

Maybe Orlando when Miami is underwater, but wouldn't you just move the Marlins there with the rest of the refugees?

I love the idea of expansion. Thinner pitching staffs with the juiced ball could give us some pinball machine scores.
